secret squirrel

I was at a job today, the customer has a four bedroom semi detached house in a relatively good part of town. Four kids, one about to leave school, one at uni and two already left.

Having a chat as we all do, good customer relations etc. The customer explained that she'll find out if she can keep her house in a couple of months. Turns out that she is upset that she will loose her benefit if her son doesn't go to college.

A couple of questions later turns out she'll loose approx £180 per week. Thats right in excess of £9k per year + other benefits. I enquired after what work she did and shes a self employed cleaner. I said you must have uni charges to pay for your daughter, apparently, all fees are paid for.

I stopped talking to the customer, carried on with my work, charged her and left.

There are a few posts about this sort of thing. I do find it so depressing, how many of us are or have been struggling only to find things like this. Just damn hurtful really.

OH, I'll be writing my cheque out next week for the tax man, thats right I didn't earn anywhere near £9K in my first year. And I'm not entitled to a bloody penny.:13:

theres a lady who enjoys the horizontal enjoyment, and lives in my dads house (that he cannot sell worth £250k)
4 bed detached house, 3 living room, 4 bathroom, purpose made loft room, conservatory, 15 car drive (you get the idea)

And because of the economic situation, she cant get a job and the state pays for it all

MAKES ME SICK,

AND it was my fault that the gas valve packed up on a sunday evening, and if I! didnt make it work she would phone the police and gas safe, because its her right to have heating

grr, i wish i never posted now because its already winding me up
:59:

You probably are entitiled but dont know how, its the ones that know the system that rake it in. You and me would get £50 if we signed on

i take it you dont have kids ss?.
uni student get a grant in their own right, any parent can claim family tax credits.

I need to find out about these tax credits. My bill for last year is going to kill me. Seriously. I was knocked by a client this year for 11K which I'm chasing through the courts. I should have put all of last years tax bill away for payment but I didn't and I'm gonna be broke as of tommorrow.

Did you speak to an accountant Danny. You should be able to write it off even though you are still chasing it.

A good idea to prepare for the tax bill is to set up monthly DD payments on account. It is easy to do and even £100 a month will help at the time. They even pay you interest.

Yeah, I have an accountant. Can't right it off as a bad debt as it is classed as this years bad debt, not last years.

No I'm stuck with it. I do put some away. Whats happened is I've been earning more than usual, but spending much more than usual doing my house up. So have skint myself, and then been knocked.

So bigger tax big than last year (twice as much).

I'll just have to keep grafting and work my way out of it.

Went limited in June which apparently helps. I'll seriously look into these tax credits ect though. I have always been as straight as anything, and never claimed a thing. Well now I'm going to claim whatever I'm due! Sick of the money going to spongers as mentioned by OP.

One year i got a 46k tax bill (for 6 months) the year after i had spent it living la vida loca. I blew up at the accountant for not warning me but it was my own fault. Thought i was going to have to sell the house to pay it but i pleaded poverty, managed and learned.
I wish i had a 46k tax bill these days. Older and wiser

I haven't got kids but I don't see what this has to do with anything. I'm also aware that anyone can claim family tax credits. I also think that if your on minimum wage you should be given a helping hand, if your seriously disabled then you should be helped out.

However, time and time again there are people on benefit that are better off than those working. This surely can't be right. Now the government are trying to limit benefit to £26k per annum, equivalent to £33k for people working.

If your on £100k per annum and leave the house at 6.30 and not getting in until 7pm your earning about £50K after 50% tax and NI etc. Your probably in a high stress job and having to pay train fees of £3k etc.

If your on benefit and have a slight disability your ''EARNING'' only £14K less sat at home having a good time winging and whining that your on the bread line.

You've got soldiers in Afghanistan having to appeal to the HMRC not to be fined for not having there self assement forms back on time.

I agree with the government this whole system needs sorting out, the welfare state was meant as a safety net for people not a way of life.

And yes, there are people both on this forum and bankers etc. that earn very good money and have a fantastic life style but still keep getting hit in the pocket by 'do gooding' governments giving more to the sick, lame and lazy and then those doing well made to feel guilty about working hard for what they have.

Yes. I am hurt by this system and very disappointed and continue to be disappointed. Actually disgusted.

I'm disgusted by the way that they are only waking up to the fact its being going on for years and no one has done a thing about it until now.

A worry that she is probably putting pressure onto her kids too - prob making them do things they don't want to be doing just so that she can receive her benfits. As if the system wasn't corrupt enough - but the corruptions that are caused as a result can be even more disturbing!
