Hello,

I live in a house that was built in the mid 60's and recently had some work done in the toilet involving the connection of a (for the want of a better word) plastic flexible connection to an already present cast-iron waste pipe.

Shortly after the job was completed, which was done unsupervised, a leak developed that soaked the landing carpet. So clearly it was a major problem.

The plumber was recalled and corrected the issue of the leak, which at the joint of the cast-iron waste pipe was sealed with Plumbers Mait.

My main concern now is should the join at the point of the cast-iron waste pipe and the plastic sleeve have been more than just Plumbers Mait?

Your views and suggestions are much appreciated.

Any chance you could add a picture to a drop box or similar and upload the link?

Flexible connector could be fernco coller or flexi pan connector one is good the other not so much...

Plumbers mait again if used properly it mustard but I have a feeling this should have been made with rapid set.

Difficult to advise without seeing the situation so to speak.

from the description what he did could either be absolutely fine and will last for many years or a bodge and will leak shortly. as said, a picture would be needed.
