no nice little bribes then redsaw ,lol ay your blue and can go anywere mate long hours tho

As per Redsaw - it's primarily a combination of factors. Not so much to do with knowledge (although it obviously helps!) but more how honest and helpful you are to others, how friendly you are, how many sensible posts you write, how many thank you's and likes you receive, etc, etc.

If you can have loads of knowledge but are condescending to "new" plumbers telling them they're idiots whenever they ask a question, you won't become trusted. If you are honest and friendly but keep giving wrong or dangerous information you won't become trusted. Pure quantity of posts won't work either. Nor will 5-10 quality posts. Creeping to the moderators, bribing, etc, won't work!

It's not a numbers game, but if you can obtain 10% thank you's (1 in 10 posts) and 20% likes (1 in 5) it won't take you long to become a trusted.

Having lots of experience does help too IMO. Sometimes I feel that people who come on here looking for answers bypass the answers we give in favour of those given by TA's while in fact many of us have vast amounts of knowledge and many years of experience behind us, but how is someone who seeks help to know that? They'll trust the answers given by a TA first before anyone else.

Ive noticed, not in any particular thread, that a lot of posts asking something get lots of replies all saying the same thing, its as if the question is being answered just for the sake of posting something to look good. Personally I'm not bothered if someone trusts my advice or not, I'm in the business of making money in real life (when I don't get bumped!) and I use these forums as a way of unwinding, asking questions that I don't know the answer to, telling of experiences I have had with particular boilers etc.
I don't have any axes to grind and feel being green is something that should be considered more an experienced user of the forums. Imo it shouldn't portray users of any other colour as inferior within the trade, if this was the case why would they have chosen the colour Green?.. lol

Yes it is, if that happens, but on a lot of posts many conflicting answers are given, leaving the op bemused. I don't believe in stifling debate, but when some fast tracker guy comes on who'se only been in this game 30 seconds and gives advice, how is the op to know his lack of experience and the rest of us are therefore tarred with the same brush, that is unless you have the TA badge next to your name! Knowledge is experience, experience is knowledge not a badge mate!
