Hi all.

I am doing my first drainage installation. I just want to check is it ok to use small chippings to line the trench before putting down the 110mm pipes
or do i have to use pea shingle.

Could chippings damage the pipe?

cheers

The thing is "Are the chippings sharp and liable to cut into the pipe?" If they are it answers itself.

Yes they are the 10mm chippings used for mixing concrete. They do seem a bit sharp looking at them.

Thanks for the replies i will order pea shingle.

Yes "pea shingle" is what most of the pipe manufacturers recommend for pvc. Its as well to show you followed some kind of official guidance in case ground movement does cause problems. It clears you, if you can point to a recommended method that you followed. The local drain inspector will have something to say as well. They like it all to regs after all it is their job to want it that way and the same applies to them about following some official guidance.
