So I've been servicing and repairing a very old bbu a few doors from my house for around 8 years with the oh chuck us a tenner ect got a call tonight about 10 mins ago the boilers stopped working can you come have a look. Ok I walk down the street. Stuck pump how much Pete. Oh a tenner. Cheers. Oh Pete be the last time you repair this mate. Ohhhh I think nice new combi job for me ..... As I've been so good to you over the years. We're have a FREE boiler in the morning I've told loads of people in the street it's FREE Wan&3rs

Why would anyone turn down a free boiler just to stay loyal to a business. You may have been using a local garage for all your van servicing etc for years and they may be thinking when this van finally packs up we will sell him a nice new one. Then one day a scheme comes up where you can get a new van for free, do you stay loyal or take the free van?

may be a free boiler, but these new ones a soooooooooooooooo expensive to service, FGAs have to be paid for and calibrated etc etc, and that free boiler will being hanging off the wall and probably AR anyhow

Unfortunately most customers will jump on the guy that offers to do the job for £20 less, the truly loyal one's are ace 😀

Did the system get flushed properly? I will just take a sample from the BOTTOM of the radiator in the hallway...... Oh it's black as black can be. Dear oh dear you going to need a powerflush and a Magnaclean. Blimey what a bad job....... How much Oooh ? £550?

I prefer a hot mains flush with vibro first on an old bbu

You can't blame them really, but! Stop charging ten pounds, your not helping yourself. Most people will sell you up the river and even if they don't, a tenner come on.

I had one the other week. Went to do the service and it was a brand new heatslave, apparently the last one burst into flames. Insurance paid for it.

Has happened to me a lot in the past on bathrooms. You do afew poxy jobs for them over the years then one day you arrive and they have a new bathroom suite put in. Strange that they never asked me I think. Even stranger that im repairing the towel radiator leak that somebody else installed 6 month before.
Oh well, no more mister nice guy. I stick another tenner on the bill, a fiver for 'sundries' and I'm off on my merry way again. Happy plumber and a happy er... customer
