My van got broken into saturday night and all my tools and drills got stolen. I work for a firm but apparently i will receive £300 on J.I.B. Thieving little sods. Ive lost 2 x 18 volt makita lithium hammer drills 2x 18 volt makita impact drills, makita sds drill, makita core drill, makita angle drill, makita angle grinder, makita torch, all hand tools, dew alt radio, the buggers even nicked my makita torch.

I feel like crying

Horrible. Sorry to hear that, it is my worst fear I am paranoid I've even alarmed the shed! Slightest noise in the dead of night and I'm up at the window. Where was the van? Just wondering if home insurance may cover it take it you don't have tool insurance

i don't have tool insurance personally no and the firm say it is too expensive to cover the firm. The van was parked outside my house.

your directly employed? if so then they should by law supply your powertools. Put it to them that if they want you to produce your workload then they will need to supply you the required equipment.

and unless needed that day or overnight store your powertools in your house if possible.

what van was it?

Sorry to hear that mate.
Hopefully they'll end up slicing through their hands with your grinder and will bleed to a slow and painful death!

Ive tried all that pal, they say they don't need to. I also rung J.I.B and they said all my firm needed to provide was basic hand tools when your first employed (which they didn't do anyway)

Sorry to hear. Plumbers nightmare.
i also get up to noises, have also walked round the back of the house with a torch on ocasions in the middle of the night. One of which led to the police at the front door. He barged past me into the house saying someone is round the back of the gardens.
neighbour called police.

Sickening, had mine done a cople of times! They should bring back capital punishment for those who steal plumbers tools.

Thats bull mate, your company must supply and maintain any electrical equipment, access equipment etc..... what is the difference between them supplying a drill for you or them supplying a computer for the office assistant?? nothing in the eyes of the law.

Its a taken as normal for direct tradesmen to have there own tools, and we dont tend to argue it but by law its not correct unless youve agreed it in special terms in your contract of employment as far as im aware. If you cant afford or dont want to rebuy the tools then leave it to them to decide if they want you to be productive or not.

cheer up. had it done twice.5k both times,
pikeys im afraid..
little tip dont get your van sign written.very little work from it.
and a great advert for the pikeys,im a plumber got loads of power tools inside.

i dread it as well analyser ,24volt in house everynight and dont have van sign written because of the amount of dirty scum pikeys around these days

The thieves had a taste for quality (Makita tools). It used to be a capital offence stealing a tradesmans tools. But in this do gooding world it don't count for nothing. Sorry to hear your plight.

i work for a firm though so the van writing is a given. I'll just have to buy them again. I will have to start keeping things in my house but its easier said that done that though. Apparently if it would of been in works time i could of claimed it all back.

had my hand tools taken about 2 years ago , since I have had a tool insurance cost about £400 and cover everything up to £5,000.00

thats not bad, but i heard dosnt cover after 9 at night and 6 in the morning,
have you checked the small print.

going to have to bloody check mine now. I paid 250 for my tool insurance upto 5 grand. Going to put dead bolts on the doors hopefully it will help.

sorry to hear about this though mate.

its a sad day when skum steal tools of the trade, but I lost the lot from my garage 5 years ago, wooden doors turn to chips, probably a local druggie fresh out of nick. He did it again to a local builder and was caught in the premises, so had a good hiding there before the police arrived, then when he got home from court a few weeks later, a couple of other builders introduced themselves as they thought he might have done the dirty on their store as well. Havent seen the little scrote in town since then, prehaps he got the message, the builders were rather big lads!!!!!

good to see the general public has its own justice being dished out up north, seems to be all they understand as coppers and courts just do paperwork and send them back to carry on!!!!!!!

Caught a burgler breaking into my neighbours house. Misses called Police while I held him down. Police took so long to come, that I got bored, so let him go, he won't come back though because of the self restraint was not too pleasant. Finally the police arrived and said they could do nothing. But warned me about vigilanty behaviour.

Gutted for you mate. I relly hope you catch them somewhere without any witnesses...
I bring everything of value in when I finish for the day and keep it under the stairs. It's an absolute pain in the rear and I hate doing it especially when I'm tired. But I'll be damned if some scrotty little smackhead is going to pawn my livelihood for his next fix.

my front steps no 37! and the van is chocker, with spares and tools so all I can do is rely on its dead locks. But like others the slightest noise and Im at the window with everything dangling looking out for tea leaves, god knows what the neighbours think 🙂

my dad managed to catch 2 lads ripping down our garden fence for a laugh! he caught one and my mam called the police. When they got there they asked the lad if he wanted to prosecute my dad for kidnapping a minor!!! luckily the lads parents were decent they refused to prosecute, gave him a good belting and made him come back around our house every day for two weeks to do chores.

that's the way to do it,we need the Arab approach, get caught off with the hands.

I'm working on site's still and I probably loose £50-£100 replacing tools ever year that have been pinched, I hate buying crap tools but there's so many light fingered dodgy characters about that will happily wonder past and remove your tape and spirit level whilst your backs turned. I think they should start building trackers into expensive power tools, that or a device that electrocutes the thieving tramps when they try to use them!:behead:

Seen this thread develop over the last few days and felt for you.

Got to first job this morning and low an behold thr rhino lock been forced and by 2 bundles of 15/ 22 gone b'stards. coming home just then and seen they had discarded waste pipe and some capping - should have known with the fair being in town!

Today J.I.B have told me i won't get a penny back. They told me last week i could claim £300. Seriously ****ed off

Fresh bundles of 22 and 15 went off mine. They unbolted rocket tube. Bought med high tranny and built it inside. No lettering. Best I can do but you cant help sweating over it. Worst is the thieving numpties havent ever done a stroke of work themselves & have no idea what grief it causes.

I've been broke in to 5 times ,,nightmare ,, double locks help a bit now , new van locks are poor designed

which part of manchester was it ?

try and invest in a heavy duty steel toolbox bolted inside of van , and keep all your expensive tools in there my friend got one made and fitted to his van years ago and when he gets a new van he fits it in that as well i know it can be a bother doing all this but his van was broken into last year and they could not get in tool box also as it was bolted to van and was very heavy they left alone and it makes some noise when you try to tamper with it metal clanging during the night is a good alarm it would be a good investment for you they can be made in all shape and sizes .

Every few months, Aldi do a large hammer/ chisel drill, a real beast, for about £40.

It lasts about 2 years, it's quality for the price.

I've got a cheap crappy little drill for the 8mm holes in walls.

Keep it simple.

The scum will keep coming back if you go the expensive route.

It's not the tools they Nick , it's the hundreds off pounds off damage they cause getting in , , you can have ten locks on , but with cordless grinders now days , and van panels light weight they cut open easy ,,

I parked out side ikea 7pm , next to 4 police bikes , as spurs where at home..
Still got broke in , caught them , four big lads , they ran off with nothing ..
