are you sure : " it's just a piece of paper "

I think its a lot more then that , to start this could be putting some ones life at HIGH RISK

It's not my opinion. It's the opinion of most landlords.

The whole process of gas safety testing and certification is flawed. What Landlord is going to thank you for finding extra work and charging them for it?

The cheap guys always win. They charge less so they get the job, then miss all the problems that need rectifying. Only way the landlord loses in this scenario is if someone dies or gets injured.

I appreciate all those ''encouraging'' me to go for the Cash cow job and refit the wet room.

Appart from doing numerous work at her home address, I have fitted three boilers for her in the past as she is also a landlord. She has also recommended me to many of her friends. She had also recommended me to the said next door neighbour but the neighbour had complained (on my first visit to replace a bath, basin and pedestal) that my price was a bit on the steep side. About two months later, the neighbour rang and pleaded that I come and change her sink tap as it was unusable? I told her she was better off calling the chap who fitted it to sort it out (it had been fitted about two days after I did the bath and basin). She said she would prefer me to have it sorted.
When I arrived, it turned out that the chap who fitted the monobloc tap had been there all morning and had no joy removing it. It was leaking badly. I proceeded to replace the taps. After about 20 mins, her husband walked in from work and his first comments were: ''Oh, it is that EXPENSIVE Fellow''. I wasn't well pleased. They know my price in advance and obviously consider it EXPENSIVE, so why bother requesting for my services?
If I post pictures in the Hall of Shame section relating to work done in my landlord customer's flat in Battersea, you will be horrified. Who went and sorted it, Muggins here.

I take pride in my work and go out of my way to ensure it is carried out to a high standard, SIMPLES. In effect, my prices reflect the 'quality' of my work. On this ocassion, I agree that the Gas Safe Certs job was a drop in the ocean, but for me, it is a matter of principle. If she had realised that the other chap was going to charge them £40 each, she should have just gone ahead and used him. Why ask me to match his price?

After reading the replies on here, I will phone her tomorrow and tell her I will not be able to do the job.

You really are living upto your name, customers employ us, if your expensive according to them , so what! do the job if they want you get paid and walk away, loads of my customers tell me I cost a lot, I just grin and say shall I call next year to do the service then and they say yes normally, so I do and life goes on and they repeat themselves the following year.

I was meant to refit a WET ROOM for a customer in January, but the work load meant I moved it to Mid February. She did ask me to price for Gas Safety Certs (two) in Mid January. I told her £50 each but she said her neighbours plumber can do Certs for £40. If I can match that, the job is mine. Well, I said NO.

Today she sent me a message reminding me of the Wet Room job, asking if it was possible, could I do it sooner?

She doesn't know yet, but there is no way I am now going to do the Wet Room job. Besides, I will not bother responding. When she eventually gets round to phoning me, I will advice her to get the plumber who did her Gas Certs to sort out the Wet Room. If he can't, then he will know someone who can.
I really will not be able to sleep soundly at night, knowing that she could have had the Wet Room done for cheaper than I am charging her. For the time I took to remove the old tiles, I will let her have that for free and will not bill her.

I would just do the job couldn't care if she got someone to do a job to save £20
As long as your getting what you want for wet room take it
Business is business mate

That sounds right, but in all earnest, my mind is made up. Let her neighbour get someone cheap to do the wetroom for her. In some months down the line, I'll hope there is no desperate plea for me to com to the rescue.

There are two boiler jobs that she asked me to quote for last year but I never got the jobs? Now it is obvious someone else did the jobs. I see no reason why everytime she has been ''messed up'' by others, she remembers me, then probably complains behind my back about my prices? I wish all works out well for her.

Mate , just get the work done !!! Put money in your bank and move on . You don't have to commit long relation and don't have to drink her tee and eat her biscuits ....

Let me get this right. She's put up with you delaying the wet room by a month, she recommends you to various people (who have given you work) and because she asked for £20 off what basically amounts to a boiler MOT certificate you are going to let her down, lose her custom and the job?

Is that right? That sounds a bit odd to me VI. Do you secretly dislike this woman for some other reason?

No Danny P I do not dislike her at all. She is actually my wife's friend. Haven't you heard the one about not doing jobs for friends and family?

SGI, other peoples mess take longer to rectify than if you had a blank sheet and had to start from scratch. But when you charge more, they think you're taking the Mickey. I'm not going to push the boat out.

But with almost everyone now saying I am living up to my name, I'm begining to rethink my logic? So I think I will approach it differently. Up to this point, we have not decided on a price yet? She wanted to know how much it will cost, but I told her I will not know as there are many unforseen circumstances. Besides, from her text message, she now wants the whole bathroom tiled as she cannot find an exact match of tiles for the wetroom area.

So I will give her a very steep price. That hopefully will tip her over and give her reason to look elsewhere.

I've had repeat customers that I didn't particularly like in the past. As long as they're not rude to me, I don't care. If they are rude, then they quickly become ex customers.

One lady annoyed me. I popped out for parts. I warned her I was going and was told I must be back within an hour as she was going out. Luckily parts centre was around the corner. Off I go. Back 10 minutes later, and she was gone. With my tools locked inside. Luckily she returned but only as she had forgotten something. I retrieved me tools, and she let me finish the work, and lock up.

I was annoyed and charged well for the work. She is now a very regular customer. She has a few houses, all old and I am slowly working through them! I was tempted to walk away that first visit but I'm glad I didn't. She's just uber scatty.

My customers have to put up with me going bleep bleep and disappearing out the door, leaving them with no water or heating, my first job on any boiler change is to cap and check the gas pipe to the boiler, then when the lifeboat calls, I'm off 🙂. Longest I left a lady with no wate was all day and then I popped back at 10pm to tell her I'd carry on in the morning, her only comment, coffee will be waiting for you dear, filled the kettle fm next door 🙂
