I have a Potterton back boiler that is nearly forty years old and never missed a beat. However, retirement looms and I am looking at ways to economise on day to day costs and feel that changing the boiler will see a big saving on gas.
I have made tentative enquiries with local tradesmen and the stock answer is to install a combi boiler but wanted to check here with knowledgeable people first as to whether a combi fits our circumstances.
Its just the two of us at home now which is a Dorma style house. We have six radiators downstairs and three upstairs. Shower is electric though would consider running from the boiler if it increased performance. No other gas appliances in the house.
Its likely the new boiler would be fitted in the loft space on the top floor.
Advice appreciated on whether to go combi or an alternative source, plus which manufacture to go for. I have always considered the Worcester Green Star range to be first choice, but researching online implies its not that clear cut. About the only thing I know is to go for one with a stainless steel heat exchanger. Apparently Baxi do these and their customer service is far better than Worcester, but then other manufacturers trump Baxi in other elements and so on-its a minefield!

my baxi is 10yrs old and not missed a heart beat ..just serviced every 2 yrs now.
