what size LST rad to order?

Can someone give me some advice please as to the correct size radiator to order .


I want to install in the bathroom, an LST double radiator in place of a very old chrome bar towel rail which gives off very little heat into the bathroom. The heat comes from water out of the central heating system.


At present there are two copper water feed pipes coming out of the wall at a low level, horizontal to the floor, couple of cm above floor level. They are 600cm apart. What needs to be done is disconnect the old chrome radiator and install the new LST rad.


I am thinking in terms of a wall mounted Radiator unless advised otherwise. I don't know if I order one 600cm wide or less than that to allow for the need for Right angle elbows and control valves? It all depends I think on the entry points into the new radiator.

Has anyone any suggestions as to which LST rad size I should order. It can be up to about 800cm high , but its the width that is causing me a headache- how wide so that we use the two pipes available, 600 cm apart.
Really helpful would be to point me to an actual rad to buy for the job..

You need to size the radiator for the heat loss of the room rather than the pipe positions. With an LST rad the pipework is within the case so it can't be seen.

I agree and understand about wanting to get the most effective BTU for the room, but my worry is how the water would be brought into and out of the radiator and how the pipework would get there..If the rad is say 700 wide and the pipe centres are 600 apart...how would that work?

Special walk in Bath for lady of 95 years old. Don't want her brushing up against rad and burning herself. Bathroom presently inadequately heated. Any better ideas welcome..

Turn the boiler stat down.

Size it to the room. Then get whoever is fitting it to alter the pipework to suit.

Listen guys- thank you very much for the advice given but I have concern about the practicalities of what I am being told.
When I talk about the pipework, what I'm saying is that each pipe protrudes about 4" out of the wall and that it. The centres are 600cm apart so bringing in new pipework isn't an option.I suppose a couple of right angle elbows could be used to extend the pipework further apart and then more elbows to allow for fitting to radiator. But is using so many turns and twists ok? If you tell me its not a problem then I wold size the rad for the room - I know that.
Sorry to keep asking but am still not sure . Installation is to be by the firm putting in the bath, I am to buy the radiator.

Elbows fine mate providing it's not a one pipe system.

Depending on what make of rad you get, the pipe work may have to be altered anyway. A lot of lst rads require the pipe work flow and return on the same side as the valve(s) are on the same end of the rad - behind the cover.
