If you were to open the back doors of a van used by the three descriptions you mention. The difference would be more than apparent. The plumbers van would be carrying more rubbish and totally disorganised. If not don't employ him.

I say plumber because everyone understands what a plumber does.

Had one a while back ... "Is that the boilerman? Can you come and repair my tap?"

For once I have to disagree with you!
Others in construction will know but i think Many or Most customers will NOT.

Also, there are plenty of guys (& a few girls) who are Only one thing or the other.

I wrote a blog on this very thing a while back What is the Difference Between a Plumber and a Heating Engineer?
I said difference is heating engineer (IN UK) must be qualified & registered
whereas
anyone can call themselves a plumber and do plumbing.

People in the USA have told me plumbers and heating engineers are seen as very separate professions there.

my dad refers to plumbers as '****house engineers'

the issue i have with these descriptions and the tendency of some to say a 'plumber' should do the lot is it leaves no descriptor for those of us who aren't yet gas safe and are restricted to the wetside.......perhaps my dad has solved this dilemma!

the only part I hate about plumbing is drains, but I put up with it. Some of the smells we have to put up with would make a normal person vomit probably, everything else I enjoy to a certain extent lol
