Hi there. I want to fit this thermostat/programmer:

Salus RT500-RF Wireless Programmable Room Thermostat: Heating Controls Online

manual:

http://tiny.pl/hc2kq

------------------------------

At the moment I have dual channel programmer and analog thermostat as a two separate devices.

Dual channel programmer controls central heating and hot water (periods only)

http://tiny.pl/hc2k2

thats the wiring for it:

http://tiny.pl/hc2km

Analog thermostat located in different room sets up temperature in the house (central heating):

http://tiny.pl/hc2kg

and wiring:

http://tiny.pl/hc2k7

My question:

Can i keep the old dual channel programmer as a master and fit the new wireless device as a second one (replace the old analog thermostat)

The RT500 Is only a replacement for your analoge thermostat. So The answer is yes (providing you get the wiring right on the wireless one).
You will still have to have to switch on using the old programmer first then regulate the temperature with the wireless one.Or Leave the old one constantly ON then use the wireless one to switch on/off.

Thats what i thought, however would the wiring be ok? Analog thermostat uses only 3 wires: live, neutral and one more. Does the wireless device not require any more (eg COM) to control the periods/temp as a 'slave' device? (dual channel programmer would be constant on as a master as you mentioned).

To replace you thermostat you only need Live, neutral and the third wire connected to SL on or off Depending on your current configuration.

doitmyself: so, can i replace the old analogue thermostat with the Rt500RF, leave the old dual channel programmer as a constant ON and control the periods and temp by the Rt500RF ??? i dont get it now...

i need to leave the dual channel programmer where it is as it controls the hot water as well, hot water needs to be heated only for a while in the morning and for a short time in the evening as well.

thanks

Yes, you can do that. But you only set the CH to constant ON.

Another way of doing it is to move the black wire going to LP112 terminal 4 to the L terminal (this will now have two wires - brown and black). By doing this you are bypassing the heating side of the LP112, which now controls HW times only, so they can be completely independent of CH times.

'Yes, you can do that. But you only set the CH to constant ON'

did u mean:

1) the new wireless device will only set the CH on constant ON without controlling the periods, it would just control the temp?

or

2) I need to set up CH constant ON on the dual channel programmer and then I decide what periods/temp by setting it on the wireless device.

Thanks

It's the second one that I meant.

The only problem doing it that way is that someone could accidentally or deliberately alter the CH setting on the old programmer and cause no end of headaches. But, as I explained, you can get round this by moving one wire at the old programmer.

Yeah I think i will swap the black wire as you said.

but..

in the first way..headaches u mean too hot? old programmer would only enable/disable CH (on/off) rest would be controlled by the rt500rf, so the only problem someone can do by altering the CH settings on the old programmer is switching CH off accidentally, is that what u meant?

sorry but i always ask a lot, thats me 😛

thanks a lot

Metaphorical headaches not real ones!

Yes. But the old programmer has four settings for CH: OFF, ON (continuous), Once and Twice. If it is accidentally moved from ON to one of the others, you would then find that the heating was not coming on when you expected (as set on the wireless prog stat). Trying to sort out what the cause was could easily give anyone a headache. Much easier to nip it in the bud and prevent the problem ever happening.

Got it.

I have headaches when is too hot, thats why i missunderstood

Big thanks for your help. Much appreciate

and the final question *(i hope).

replacing analogue thermostat with Rt500-RF. Obviously L live, N neutral, but where do i plug the third wire? Would that be "NO" ?

diagram link Rt500RF below:

http://tiny.pl/hc854

cheers

"NO" is normally off but no idea on the wiring in your instance as I have only ever used Salus for combi's on volt free switching. Be careful when you tighten the screws where the wires connect as they tend to be fragile and I've had several faulty ones hence why I no longer fit Salus.

i have fitted it. When i set up heating temp higher than room temp showed on the device, it is switching on (flame symbol on the screen as well as green led on the receiver are coming up), however radiators are still cold ;/

ps: i havent swap the black wire in the dual channel programmer however I have set CH on constant ON on it,

?

Is the boiler lighting?

Which boiler do you have (make and exact model)?
