Had a random phone call to me by a local letting agent saying they needed a reliable gas engineer who could jump through hoops for them and be at their beck and call basically with up to 100 properties as the previous engineer was now letting them down.I'm getting cynical in my old age, so said yes I was interested but before I arrange a meeting, could they give me an idea as to what they would be looking to pay for said gas certificates as I do them correctly and if they are offering some of silly prices around then I wouldn't be interested. She assured be that they weren't and they would also potentially have other work. Ok says me, what is the price - £30 she says . Thanks for for your call but no thanks. But why she says when there could be other work !!! Have these people no idea ?

I reckon there are people who do them for this price, "in a fashion"
it doesn't matter to the agent, they get the certificate. There covered.

If there's a glaring fault it won't work like that.

Aye appreciate that. Just that when I do anything on oil its done right or not at all. After all its my name on the sheet.

So how can people say a cp12 is 30 quid before you see it all? All sounds a bit dodgy for the tenants. If costs are driven down then the jobs not being done properly, to me anyway.

I currently do them for a major agency at above double that with vat. I do a proper job which they are are one of the few who are happy to pay for it. I get fed up with the number of times of tenants saying to me that the previous engineers were only there for tens mins or why am I taking the fire out or boiler cover off !!!!

There's a bloke round here doing gas safety's in LONDON for £30! In high rise building!!!

he also admits to not doing a tightness test on any of them.

Makes my blood boil

Your not legally obliged to do a tightness test on a cp12/ landlords gas safety cert. it's not right but he isn't breaking the law
