How do i remove this shower!?

View the thread, titled "How do i remove this shower!?" which is posted in UK Plumbers Forums on UK Plumbers Forums.

Hi all, would appreciate a little advice...

I need to replace this shower as I believe the mixer is broken and is allowing the cold feed to over power and dilute the hot feed, which affects the rest of the house.

I don't think it is a thermostatic shower valve and would like to replace it with one, trouble is, I'm struggling to remove the damn thing.

I have isolated the water
Cut around the silicone
Removed 2 grub caps and allowing me to remove the 2 handles
Removed the separate shower hose
But then when I unscrew the connector for the main riser bar it gets to a point that doesn't unscrew anymore and gets tight on the thread pushing the whole unit away from the wall a little bit before clicking round and releasing it.

Should the riser bar unscrew separately or is it just pushed into the connection?

I can't find a name on the valve anywhere so have no idea what make it is.

TIA

Have you undone the top mount for the riser rail etc ?
The high up mount that holds it to the wall? I haven't undone it but the riser twists within it, I still can't get it to lift of the valve though.

I'm thinking the screw connection on top of the valve should come completely free and for some reason it's getting stuck on the thread?

Yes that needs undoing

No it’s not a loose nut so your undoing the threads and forcing the extra up or the valve down hence why it gets tight

Ahhh I see. So undoing the fixer that holds the riser to the wall should help it come free from the valve at the bottom.

I'm guessing I'll need to remove the 2 cartridges (revealed after removing the 2 handles) before the unit comes away from the wall? Will they be how it's attached to the pipework?

Thanks for your help...

Won’t need to undo the cartridges as they should be attached to the pipework via orings

I've managed to get to this stage but can't for the life of me get it off the wall... what am I missing??

Should it be a lift up and off? Pull towards me? Or something else?

** scrap that, managed to get it off with a few gentle taps from the bottom.

Ok, so the pipes and fittings are not what I expected so a couple more questions I'm afraid...

1. Is this a thermostatic shower valve? Can you tell from this photo? I can't find a make or name anywhere on this thing and can't find it online either.
2. I want to replace it because at a certain orientation of the temperature control you can hear the cold water rushing through (when turned off) and this is affecting the hot water for the whole house. Could it just be that the cartridge needs replacing?

It will mostly be used by my 11 year old daughter so if it's not a thermostatic valve I'd prefer to change it. Trouble is, I was expecting to be able to easily fix a bar valve but now I don't know because of the flexi pipes...

Tia
