chelsea

went to a glow worm 100e boiler and water was gushing out of the seals of the pump and the pump was seized, quoted to

replace pump as it was tripping out the electrics too

went there today got the boiler working with a new pump, all fine hot water and heating working perfectly

got a call about an hour ago from the the lady pretty much screaming at me down the phone saying shes got no heating but the hot water still works

and wants me to come out and have a look, i said ok but if its another fault then its chargeable bearing in mind the boiler has not been serviced in over 5 years and her words were "I think you should come and fix it for free because you misdiagnosed it"

i said the pump is guaranteed but i can't guarantee the rest of the boiler if you have another fault then its chargeable

would she have it?

i know the pump is working otherwise hot water wouldn't work

then she started getting nasty down the phone and hung up on me

then the husband phoned up and said can i come and look at it and i said exactly the same about being another fault and

he sort of understood but also wanted it done for free, and i said basically NO as i am not being spoken

to like that

If the lady was polite down the phone then i would of happily had a look, probably something really simple like room stat
failed

I'm not liable for the rest of the boiler if something else goes wrong but the custards expect me to replace other parts as a goodwill gesture

Bloody joke if you ask me

Old boss used to say, if u replaced my break light bulb but when I drove home I had a flat tyre would u come to my car and replace the tyre? Break light is connected to the tyre after all?

Annoys me when people phone me up about a boiler fault
and then say u serviced it 2 months ago so why is it not working now arghhhhh

I had one while back. I fitted a new boiler for someone, 2 months later a rad valve starts leaking and water came through the ceiling. They wanted to blame me and claim on my insurance even though it was an existing valve and I hadn't even touched it. Just because I fit a new boiler it doesn't make me responsible for the whole system lol.

I made it quite clear it was nothing to do with me, took a while to convince them. I replaced the valve for them for free as a goodwill gesture, which I probably shouldn't have done really. But it made them happy and they have since recommended me to others which has got me work, so worked out well in the end.

Was it vented to combi swap?

No, just conventional for conventional. So no pressure difference, was just unlucky for them that it started leaking. If ever I do an open vent to sealed conversion I always put a disclaimer in and say im not responsible for any issues caused with the increased pressure and any remedial works are chargeable and get them to sign it.

I do pressure test in this case. Just don’t want any popped fittings after I’m out of the house. This way, there are defo no comebacks.

What do you pressure test to out of interest?

Air or water test?

Surely if a joints gonna give then its going to give! Test or no test.

Air pressure test: maximum CH working pressure + 50%, that would be 4.5 bar. That’s for copper, don’t do plastic. I rather test.

Have a look here:

Baxi Platinum Combi MI:

6.7 Safety Pressure Relief Valve
1. The pressure relief valve is set at 3 bar, therefore all pipework, fittings, etc. should be suitable for pressures in excess of 3 bar and temperature in excess of 100°C.
