Installing a basin in someone's property. Can't get the basin to seal. There is a rubber washer in the basin where waste goes into trap and a rubber and plastic washer sealed underneath by a nut. What am I doing wrong?

Not really sure what's wrong here but take it apart and do it like this

Put plumbers mate or silicone around the underside lip of the chrome waste and pop it through basin hole.

Put silicone around threads and fill the gap between threads and underside of basin.

Put big nut on and do it up good and tight,
Not too tight though

Then screw trap nut onto basin waste.
Job done

only thing i do differently is that i add a plastic/nylon washer between the trap nut and the basin

Sorry Steve do you mean between the big waste nut and under side of basin or the washer supplied with trap they goes between trap and bottom of chrome waste?

between big waste nut and underside of basin. so you put waste in with plumbers mate or silicone under lip, then silicone underneath round thread then plastic washer then big nut.

I see. I do the same if and when it's supplied with waste. I don't put them in if try don't come with it.

Silly washer that comes with waste gets thrown as far as possible!!

Not the one Steve is on about. If its there I use that one
