Morning all

i know a few of us like the British gas style dust sheets, you know the heavy duty waterproof ones. I have made contact with a rep for the company that makes them and so far he has been ace.

After er a recent thread it was suggested that perhaps an alliance/plumbers collective was formed similar to how the merchants operate in regards to buying.

these sheets unfortunately aren't the cheapest but as a former BG minion I can vouch for there quality and durability I still haven't had a sheet last as long as there's did.....

so my question is, is anyone else interested in these sheets and hopefully we can get something done on the price. I have asked about different colours as it can co inside with your brand, personally my choice is black or grey.

i know a few people are keen on raising there image and looking that little bit smarter then the rest. And my opinion is that this is one way to look that bit smarter and perhaps gain more referrals.

And before you all jump over this saying it's just dust sheets what's the point... Too much money for a throw away item etc

think from a customers point of view, heavy dust dust sheets in a colour that matches your company image sprawled out across the customers house showing you care about their property and how your interpreted as a tradesmen in someone's home. Also a few pictures of said sheets layer out in the work area posted on your website.

They can print you logo but minimum order for that would be 400 dust sheets and well.... That's just impractical, so I will take mine to the local printers and get my logo printed on for £3 an item

if your interested please let it be known quick so I can raise the concept with the rep

cheers all

Ok I've hit a few speed bumps with this, so am trying to iron them out as we speak and I will come back with prices once I have done so, but please keep letting me know your interest so I know who to message etc once we have a solid price and quantity.

Ha, funny you should mention this! I've also been talking to the rep (Dave McGlynn) from Florprotec! I'm interested in how to get them printed with my logo. What printers do you use?

a defo take a few, random question i had a lil fire the other week my blow torch fell over when i was using it(dust sheets went up and burnt the carpet lucky size of 5 pence) still am not looking for burn proof but wee accidents like that will these dust sheets take that. o they were harris cotton dust sheets.

i take a few 3x3 and 2 stair runners

Ok good response so far.

massod they won't print individual logos it would be 1 logo on 400 sheets so if we do it collectively as a plain coloured sheet then if we wanted have out logos put on ourselves. I would just use the company that produces my t shirts and jumpers but have them printed rather then embroided.

i think to make this affordable we would need to order around 400 between us but if you think along the lines of placing an annual order rather then just popping into screwfix as you need them then it's not that bad. Just waiting to hear back on what happens to the price if we order that many as individually with no minimum order they just aren't viable so as much interest as we can then I think we are on.

Downside to selling them is competitors getting in on the action after all it's us trying to get ahead and look smarter. But it's your sheet you do as you please with it. I did think about mr stafford on this but not sure how he'd feel tying money up in dust sheets. But it would make placing the order ALOT easier especially for those needing vat receipts etc.

im making headway with the rep now so hopefully come this evening once a few more of us are in and responding we can do something on this.

Square 3m x 3m
Rectangle 1.8 x1.5
stair runners at 0.8m x 6m

im guessing most of us would take two squares, two rectangle and two stair runners.

so that could be 6 each

30 of us sign up and thats 180 sheets.

Yeah, I know they won't do individual ones, I was asking who you use for T-shirts etc. Because I'm not sure if the company who do my shirts could print such a large format.

I use 2 local company's aws workwear and print more. Also print big have been recommended to me.

i would be happy for ray to take over if he is interested as he would carry a lot more punch then little old me and is used to negotiating the best deals so Ray if you're interested speak up

im interested price dependant.

Ray might be interested in sponsoring some of the cost if it has his logo printed on it. but you'd have to ask himit might not be worth his while.

I have sent ray a pm so when he comes back we will get his input.

i don't know what anyone else feels but I would rather it was a blank sheet so I can personalise it myself.

we would all need to agree on a colour as well. So put your ideas forward. Perhaps if we select 2 colours each and the most popular colour is the winner.

They will only change the colour if we order a minimum of 400 sheets. The standard colour and pattern is blue with a flame exactly like BG although with no reference to them on the sheet. I don't know anyone else's thought but I would certainly like to distance myself from that brand. In as many ways as possible. So colour change really is the best way forward.

Lets get as much agreed as we can so the leg work is done and if Ray is interested then it will be more appealing to him as all he needs to do is negotiate a deal with the specifics and see if it's viable for him to do.

I'll start by suggesting either black or grey and I would be looking at a mix of 10 sheets

With regards to cost we wont know 100% until we have a colour and quantity then we can grt down to number crunching. But as stated we are looking at 400 before this is viable.

Need a ball park figure before getting hopes up. If your talking £50 a sheet I think the numbers will start to drop.

Grey would suit me.

I have been wanting to do this for a while. I would definitely vote against the colour black though as you may not notice any sludge from an old rad on it, and then go and lay in on a nice cream carpet the next day and stain it. Grey would be good. If the price is right, I would potentially order about 15-20 sheets.

I would also like some of the anti-slip ones as well, is that possible as part of this order?

I have the black ones by same co. Also the felt stair runners. I would buy 50 or so if price right.

Local fabric retailer. They stitched and edged them to match. No stupid logos just heavy durable sheets. Can't seem to get the felt runners tho. Will upload some pictures tomorrow.

TBH I'd prefer navy blue, as my workwear is all navy. But if the general consensus is not blue then grey. As already said, black masks rad sludge too easily! But definitely no flame logo!

I'd be interested in at least one of each if price isnt too horrendous. I like a deep blue if colours are available otherwise grey is ok. Good on you for sticking your head above the parapit, if it doesnt come off, well done for trying anyhow. Prehaps Ray will stock the 300 we cant buy amonst us 🙂

Doesn't sound right? maybe he is busy planting the rest of his bulbs 🙂

Back on topic, I agree black probably isn't the best as will hide sludge / soot too well.

I can't thank you all enough for the response, was genuinely expecting to be treated like someone asking if now was a good time to become a plumber:furious3:

I agree we have established that demand is there (price depending) obviously.
have had an update from Mr. Stafford he is away for a few days and is back to the office on Thursday. Will be brilliant for all involved if we can pull this off.

Again thank you to everyone that has expressed an interest so far and to those raising their concerns regarding the black sheet.

I not had an issue with black sheets and sludge but I'm carful. Do have gray and blue ones. From memory the BG runners are 320gsm navy heavy denim type with a 24mm seam at sides 3, 6 and 8m lengths ?

Dust sheets are a 150gsm cotton close weeve?

I would take 2 of the 3x3m ones and 2x stair runner sheets. Fed up buying cheap sheets to be honest.

didn't realise we had a textile guru on board as well!

I'm going to get some samples from our woman made up. I'm sure that a better deal can be struck, that geezer is just a middle man. So blue or gray? What sizes? Do u ladies use service sheets??

I have no idea how these dust sheets are different from the sheets I already buy?

The ones I get have a layer of plastic in the middle, they're a medium weight fabric (like a normal dust sheet). I use conventional runners with no plastic in the middle.

I'd be interested too if they are actually better than what I'm using and the price is right.

Mine? Yeah. They're a pain in the backside to be honest. I have bags and bags, of dust sheets. I bought a load of a mate of a mate. I've become a bit frivolous with em and often just lob em away after a long job is done, and they've been walked over for a week or two.

i get my dust sheets off simonf 🙂

you could sell the advertising space on them with your own co details done free?

I'd be happy with bg blue.
I posted this company on the site afew months ago but couldn't be bothered to actually ring them up so good on you for doing that. The thing is, I wanted the colour due to twill sheets looking awful laid on a customers carpet when they're basically old or dirty. I wanted a colour to hide the sludge stains! For me, grey would be defeating the object really. Im after a darker colour so id settle for black but blue would be my choice.

Sounds like a plan. I was thinking if we knew the material and somebody who does sewin.

Id be be looking at small med and large sheets. Half size runners would be good like 3m x 1m?

Sorry to be late to the part but I'd be down for some too.
Any one got a pic og the BG ones? i've never seen them

Much easier and they stick to carpet, not like stroll and roll rubbish, more like worn out velcro

I'm guessing the don't slip about everywhere as well then? Sounds good. Interest registered. My current dust sheets drive me mad.

The pricing and deal making has been passed to Ray to see what he can do. Ray has been off for a few days and is back in the office tomorrow. So with any luck once he has cleared his back log of emails and messages he can take a moment to look into it for us. Be patient people

I got back in late today, and have spoken to the rep that Rob has been speaking to.

It turns out he has only been in the job three weeks, and he has toddled off to talk to his boss.

I am tied up most of tomorrow (thursday is bondage day!) but will report back when I have news.

Quick update on this.

It seems that the quantity of 400 for a custom run (ie different colour, branding etc) is for a single size, so if people wanted all three different sizes, (3m x 3m, 1.8m x 1.5, and 0.8m x 6m runner) then that would be a total order of 3 x 400 = 1200 sheets in all.

I'm trying to beat them down on this at the moment, as I don't think we can get to that sort of quantity easily.

Pricing for singles looks like:

3m x 3m - £25 + VAT
1.8 x 1.6m - £15 + VAT
0.8m x 6m - £22 + VAT

and I was proposing to put together some sort of bundle with a slightly better price for a mixed quantity. To be honest, I was surprised at how expensive they are - but then I don't work with sheets all day, so I am not well placed to comment on whether its worth the extra for "good" sheets. I had always assumed that "good" meant cheap enough to throw away at the end of the job if necessary. 🙂

Branding is a tricky one for us. The last thing that we want is our name and logo spread all over your customers house! We would rather that the general public didn't know we existed - that suits us just fine.

Is it worth anything to you guys to have UKPF branded dust sheets? I don't suppose your customers care very much. If not, its probably better to go with standard stock blue, and not have to worry about the whole quantity issue.

25+ VAT is a lot of dosh for one sheet. I think I'll stick to my use and throw ones!

Cheers all the same! Sure the others may be interested still.

Cheers for putting the time in Ray, I'll give it a swerve.
At those prices I'll be wearing them down the pub haha

Ray to the rescue.

Pricier than I imagined, but not au fait with the quality of what we are talking about. If we are talking top gear then I would still be in. Still would work out cheaper than replacing or cleaning carpets.

My personal bundle preference would be 1 @ 3.0 x 3.0 , 2 @ 1.8 x 1.6 and 2 @ 0.8 x 6.0. In the stock blue would do and I could look at getting it locally branded.

If I get a sample of sheets by next week, I shall post to who ever wants some, I'm only posting two samples so it will be a post to next gibbon affair?

Just to put this in to perspective a little, I ordered a 1.8 x 1.6 dust sheet last week from BG on my laptop. It was the only thing I ordered last week.

I get a report of BG every Monday that says what I spent last week. My spend was £4:02. As the dust sheet was the only thing I ordered, it means that BG pay 4 quid for one of those dust sheets with their logo on.

I know they probably order them in their tens of thousands but £15 quid is a rip off compared to what they can actually sell them for.
