25 year old dhwc doesnt have scale at the bottom but coil does. I can easily empty it, fill it with vinegar from the washing machine hot water outlet with a submersible pump, turn on the boiler & heat it up over a couple of days before emptying it through the main body(not spout) of bath tap.
can this damage the joints & cause a leak?
i dont want to use commercial descalers such as DS3 as it would b much more difficult in many ways(handling, introducing it, rinsing...)
thanks very much for any help/views

There is a way of descaling it properly in a day but it will require heavy duty products. And the knowledge of how to handle them correctly plus £1100 worth of equipment.

i am yet to find a natural or domestic product that will even scratch the surface of limescale. I descale a lot of thermal stores but not a cylinder for the cost and time of descaling a cylinder it's better to replace then repair

Thanx for your resposes.
the vinegar will cost about £40. A new cylinder is around £300! Plus fitting.....
vinegar works very well in our kettle but perhaps it will b different in a cylinder?
maybe its impossible to b sure whether it will damage seals & cause leakage which is my main worry?
thanx again
