Hi
i have a twin Immersion tank to provide hot water with two heating elements - both Backersafe Type BS311C. These are connected to the wall where a separate switch for each is attached. Recently I lost hot water and called someone round. It was found that the switch for the bottom heating...
Hi
Bath mixer tap is running too hot in shower, almost scalding.
Other taps seem mostly good temperature. However there is immersion heater in flat.
How do I differentiate whether element stat or mixer tap is failing.
My house was built in 1966 as a 2 bed bungalow. An oil-fired Aga with back boiler heated the water in a vented cylinder. The Aga was removed, leaving an immersion heater to heat the tank.
A dormer conversion (2 beds and a shower room) was done about 13 years ago by a previous owner, and central...
Hi,
I recently bought a 2 bed flat fitted with a Elson Coral E thermal store unit, and unfortunately it's not generating any hot water from the over night immersion heater. The water isn't as cold as the cold water tap, but it's also not anywhere near lukewarm let alone hot. Also worth noting...
I'm having to use the rather old immersion heater for hot water as my DHW from the boiler has a leak.
Can anyone tell me what type of immersion heater this is? see photo. I assume it's non-thermostatic but that it does have some kind of safety cut-out? Does that mean it will heat the water...
Hi,
My rather old immersion boiler decided to give up the ghost the other day, notifying the household by tripping the switches at the fuse box. I guess it is the heating element as replacing the fuse did nowt. No problems I thought as we have a boiler which can do our hot water for us - right...
Hi, I need to replace a clapped out immersion heater element in my hot water tank but I'm unsure as to the correct replacement size.
The current element has a length of 16 inchs overall with the actual heater element being 13inches.
any ideas as to the replacement size I should get?
Thanks in...
Hi,
I have a Thermtec Ltd. Unvented hot water tank, and the bottom of two elements has broken. The plumber took a look at it, but is having a job getting a replacement element and they've told me they may not be able to get one.
Is there anywhere that may still sell this? Failing being able to...

Hi fellas, I've replaced an immersion in April fitted a Screwfix "titanium" one. Got called back yesterday, opened the cover the pre-soldered live was totally burned to a crisp..
Totally not impressed with this pile of titanium poop supplied by Screwfix. I am pretty sure I can get a free...
Had to cap off a manky keston celcius / uv spa combo due to flue leaking in void.
Basically looking into alternatives to installing a new combi and having to rip out ceiligs etc to fit new flue and air pipes as current set is fitted within internal compartment. Done a few in the past and are...
Hi all,
Me and my partner have recently moved into a flat that solely uses an immersion heater (think it's a dual one) on economy 7 for water heating.
Since we have an electric shower and a cold-fill washing machine, we turned off the immersion heater as we don't use hot water taps.
My...
Hi all,
Ive got to change a downstairs wc hot basin tap for my mother in law.
She has an old back boiler in the living room and an immersion heater in an upstairs bedroom.
Was just wondering, will i need to switch the boiler off, and drain down the entire immersion heater to accomplish the...
My IDEAL central heating boiler is over 30 years old and had been 'kettling' for some months. My plumber drained the system, refilled it with some kind of sludge remover, drained it again and refilled with the required anti-corrosion stuff. The boiler is now very quiet. BUT, when set for 'hot...

Guys , these stats are without a doubt the biggest PITA I deal with .
I am just sick of buying stats that dont work out of the box , either they cut off too quick or fall short of just about boiling a cylinder .
Does anybody know of a firm that makes imm heater stats ( 11" unvented / thermal...
Hi all,
I have just replaced my immersion element in an unvented system hot water tank. Its an Ariston Classico STD 150 (stainless steel). I used the old washer which seemed to be made of a rubber mix substance of some sort and was in good condition still. I used some WRAS approved 'Blue'...
Hi all. I posted a few days ago about an Elson Coral E thermal store. Quick question if anyone knows.....what is the difference between the original coral immersion for this system and a normal immersion heater? (in this case, it was replaced with an 11" incoloy immersion heater which I'll be...
Hi folks. First post on this forum. I'm a gas safe plumber/engineer and came across a hot water problem in a property with a type of direct hot water cylinder I've not encountered before. I know someone on here is going to wonder what type of plumber i am for not understanding this system, but...
I'm changing a top entry immersion tomorrow.. To date I've only done side entry.
I'm thinking I just need to shut off the gate valve on the cold feed (if it's not seized), run the lowest hot tap to drain pipework and then crack open the immersion - catching the excess with a wetvac.
Or is it...
