Hi all.have just registered and would like to say hello and hope someone can help with my problem. I recently changed the 3 way valve on my system and now find that the wiring appears the wrong way round i.e when HW is on it operates the CH and vice versa. I know that two of the wires need switching but am not sure which. The wiring at the moment is operating as follows:
Main switch on Grey-Live
HW on-Grey & White -Live
CH on- Orange-Live
Hope this helps and someone has solution. Cheers Phil

hope this helps

Thanks. Will have a look, it's like spaghetti junction with all wires conncted through individual connectors plus I think what caused original mistake was that original wires were from old system that was old solid fuel fire that was taken out and gas boiler installed. I take it looking at this schematic it is the orange and white that need reversing?

Hi Simon, yes valve seems right way round. My initial thought was to just change valve other way but her indoors wouldn't be happy in this weather with me shutting down system to drain and refit.

The wiring at the moment is operating as follows:
Main switch on Grey-Live
HW on-Grey & White -Live
CH on- Orange-Live
Sorry, but this does not make any sense!

What is the Grey connected to? It sounds as if it's the switch which turns the heating system on/off!

For HW only, neither Grey nor White should be live!

What is the Orange connected to? What other wires connect to the same terminal?

Do you have a programmer?

Do you have a cylinder thermostat

Make and Model no of motorized valve?

Hi, grey wire becomes live when main switch is turned on. Yes I have programmer and tank stat. Motorized valve is Siemens DVA3. With regards other wiring it is very hard to distinguish due to location and poor light. Hope that helps.

Hi, grey wire becomes live when main switch is turned on.
OK Let's do this in stages!

Turn main switch OFF
Turn CH OFF at programmer
Turn HW OFF at programmer
Set cylinder stat to minimum
Turn main Switch ON: Check grey wire - should be live
Turn HW ON: Check grey wire - should be live
Turn HW stat to Max: Check grey wire - should not be live
Turn HW OFF: Check grey wire - should be live

What results do you get?

Hi, have just spent last half hour or so making it possible to see and check everything with HWMBO over my shoulder and have found prob. Valve is wrong way round. When I fitted it I did so like for like not thinking to look at outlets as I took it for granted it would be same as old one (obviously not). I feel a right plonker. Would this now mean a drain down and refit of valve or is it possible for it to be done through wiring as I understand valves operate either way. I hope it can as the Gaffer will kill me when I tell her. Please no wisecracks as to my ignorance as I feel daft enough as it is.

school boy error that will only be made once, don't worry about it.
for it to have any chance of ever working properly you need to wire it as shown in the picture in post 2.
if you are to fearful of telling the boss the complete story can you not change it when she is out??

Cheers Simon, I'm assuming the wiring is how it should be as it was changed like for like but obviously with the valve the wrong way round the CH and HW need swapping but am not sure which is which even though the choice is only two from three, wouldn't want to get it wrong.

Thanks Mike, I thought it may be just a case of swapping Ch and hw wires as valve is operating ok (obviously not)
