Called to job on Monday for landlord, poor heating circulation. He wanted new pump fitted. Boilerhouse outside no tenant in so fitted new pump. Was unable to check circulation.
Got email back to say circulation still poor. It's fine for the first hour, then radiators in different rooms start to cool. Might b different rooms not always the same.
I thought well that's odd, wonder if it's bad balancing, wrong size pipe, rooms stats, etc
anyway went out when tenant there,
TRVs on the bleeding rads.
The tenant had been hitting d roof with landlord and was a bit short with me.

boy did she feel thck, made my Friday, mind

I have had lots of customers complain about lack of heat with TRV controlled rads.
Despite explaining to them that the rads will sometimes be very hot to touch, or lukewarm, or totally cold, some customers insist the valves should not be shutting the rads off. They seem to think the rad heat should be controlled only, but not able to shut off.
I had one where the new tenant said the house was too cold. I arrived with an electronic thermometer and when I opened the outside door, a wave of heat hit me. The temperature tested at about 29 degrees, - TRVs had shut down on top setting. A fit middle aged lady, but still wanted more heat!

Never ceases to amaze me. House can be roasting hot, they're walking around in t-shirts, but aren't happy unless rads are too hot to touch.

I installed a weather-compensated system for a guy once, ran beautifully, whole house was a lovely temperature, but he kept calling me back saying it wasn't warm enough. I pointed out to him that he was wearing a thin, short-sleeved shirt, and asked if he was was cold? No he says, but the rads aren't warm enough! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at that...

I had a right one yesterday morning first job of the day...no heating! I go in ask where her thermostat is...she shows me. Programmer/timer? No I don't have one just the thermostat on that wall. Fair enough where's the boiler? It's upstairs in bedroom cupboard.
It's a combi, hot water fine but nothing happening on heating. Voltage going out but nothing coming back and nothing at the stat. Scratching my head assume it's a break in the cable somewhere and suggest I fit her an RF programmable stat and she agrees. Pull the old wiring out in the boiler and at the stat to make safe, wire up new gear and fit to wall when she says oh that's nice much more upto date than the old one next to the fridge!!! Thought she was taking the p**s but no, there it was l...faulty SM1 about 15 years old in the kitchen.

Most callbacks have to be related to thermostats or rad valves! Had massive job in ongar essex which is absolute miles away, customer agreed to pay me full days rate to have a look at the stat installed by underfloor guys. They only put the bloody thing in the tripple glazed 180 degree conservatory the sun shining away at it for 8 hours every day.
