this is mainly to do with cookers. the wording I have is" any appliances in your home that you own are your responsibility-not the landlords"( don't want to get into fires because the chimney is the landlords) but my understanding of this means in that situation it is just a visual given that a lot of cookers arnt maintained do you just write requires servicing if the cooker looks passable and leave it at that or should I do more the reason I ask is some site cant remember which said check for carbon monoxide and that implys a much more thorough test

When i worked on social housing, doing cp12's everyday every cooker was tentans own. So it was just a visual check, check installed as per regs, stability bracket or chain, and make sure it looked in reasonable condition. If in a flat make sure it has FSD.

visual check only is fine. But you are supposed to use your experience when doing the visual checks and any triggers should be followed by other visual checks. eg. if you see signs of distress around a burner then it would be prudent to do a visual flame picture.

obviously if you have distruped the gas supply you need to do your flame picture anyway.

if i was reading a cert that said cooker needs a service i would read that as you have looked at it and know it probably does not have a good flame picture.
