If so, how often do you find your replacement is compatible with the original?

Are there different brands that vary enough that having one of a each/a few raises chances of success a lot? If so which ones?

Cheers

Your flogging a dead horse mate, it is much easier to just swap the whole valve than it is to strip one down and replace the innards only to find that it doesn't work of fit properly after you've filled it back up again and then have to do it again.

If there is movement in the pipes, then no point trying to swap the works.
I do sometimes just swap the valve body and use the existing nuts and olives if the olive is not a bigger distance onto the pipes and if the nuts are identical threads (usually are) and also not corroded.
But to do a really good job I now replace them with lever valves if the customer deserves it or wants it
