dont forget to ask to see their gase safe register card and turn it over to check they are qualified to work on boilers, its listed on the back. As you now know anyone can call themselves a plumber but not all plumbers can call themselsevles gas technicians 🙂
And even some plumbers can't even plumb

If you have a fault with any WB boiler and you are worried about paying a heating engineer the hourly rate + parts (- which is a reasonable thing to worry about, esp if you watch rogue Traders, etc)...
Then just call out WB - their engineer will (almost certainly) be able to fix it and have parts on his van.
You will pay one fixed fee, no matter how long it takes and no matter how many parts and the work will be guaranteed.

I haven't called them lately myself but I think their charge is about £275 including all parts and labour, somthing like that so do check with them not me - but it is a good deal.
NOW - what annoys me is when people tell me they think WB are too expensive so they are calling around local engineers hoping to get the work done cheaper!
Actually I as just looking through some old stuff and found some figures from a newspaper survey (was it which)
it had the average boiler repair including parts at about £450.

**** Edited to add - in case it is not obvious - I do think it is best to build up a good relationship with local Gas Engineer & Plumber - but if you don't have that to rely on and are worried about being ripped off....*****

I agree with TP but if it is the hex that shouldnt fail in the first place and wb should replace imho

£65 per hour !!!!!!! what do my boys have to do for that - even I would bend over for that rate
I would like to know - just saw the figure and got all excited - its real tough in West Lancashire
you know - we often have to be paid in kind ! . So this is why we go London etc 2x per week

centralheatking
At £65/hour it is!

How else do we pay for our lavish lifestyles?

Be careful diagnosing from the manuals. Some of the actions required in the step by step fault finding diagrams need You to be GSR.

That's why I was getting at.

A lot of manuals will just say 'check resistance between a + b' presuming you are competent to make the boiler safe to carry out the checks and recommission afterwards.

I'm not a big fan of the step by step guides at the back of the M.I's too much information in the wrong hands!

Bod - manual will help me go through all the things I can check before calling the gas engineer. I do trust the plumbers but I needed someone who could pinpoint the problem quickly or the cost would be beyond me.

By using a Gas Engineer as suggested by Diamondgas I should (hopefully) resolve the problem quickly.

if the pressure is ok and the power is on, what are you going to check yourself ?

Jeff, Mike.

Could I prevail upon you two lovely chaps and request you submit your GSR details to Gas Man or REDSAW?

Some convo's are better in the GSR private forum,

I'm letting this one run for the time being until the OP realises he's being a silly person.
