Hi Chaps,

Yesterday I went to a job where the basin tap was very loose (hey, when you start, you take ANY job). It was a tap from a well known DIY (.com) company just like that one (in fact it was that one):

It looks like a pillar tap but doesn't have the expected 1/2" nut to tighten it to the basin. It has some sort of hybrid ring/circlip, the remains of one can be seen on this picture, completely corroded:

I ended up changing the whole tap (for another one from the same shop, with the same fixation system which will rust out in a few years as well, no doubt).

My question is: is it possible to find those 'ring' fittings separately from somewhere? Is that a standard piece I should know about or a special DIY piece of kit?

Thanks.

Looks like normal basin fixing, clamp & nut rubber washer , proberly find tap not seal'd so water getting under it, dont trust seal that comes with tap (`O` ring) use somthing else between tap & basin.

Should have used silicone to make double sure... I'll put it down to beginner's mistake, though in hindsight I should have thought of it.

it's possible that the tap wasn't centered on the hole correctly so letting water through to corrode the clamping piece as jtsplumbing said.

Weeeeell, my plan would then have been to put it on the very rim of the whole, to seal to the joint without it being visible.

But I happily bow to superior knowledge. <makes note: no silicon between tap and basin>
