Bath mixer taps low pressure, pump?

Hi guys firstly great forum!


right, fitted a bathroom for a friend and they wanted it done on the cheap so went for a standard bath mixer tap with shower attachment.


problem is now that the pressure is rubbish. All the pipe work has been renewed back to the mst so I know all the valves are working and fully on. Both the hot and cold are off from the MST, cylinder in airing cuboard upstairs so is the bathroom.


Did think about suggesting a pump, but cold pipework for cold taps comes down from the loft into the toilet which is next door to bathroom and into wall behind bath so you'd only get the pump in the airing cuboard to run of the hot.


would it work to get a single pump and just pump the hot? Or will I have problems with pressure difference barring in mind it's NOT a thermostatic shower?


If not think I could find the main in the loft and tee it into the cold feed going into the bathroom so that the cold will be off the mains and hot will be pumped?


taking bath panel is not an option by the way as he fitted a tiled bath panel with no access grrr!

Welcome to the forum. Did you specify the correct taps for the installation? Full bore SV's?

Problem is they will need to spend some money ? If they are, then what do they want & how much do they want to spend ?
You could possible pump the outlet of the shower mixer.

Do not try anything using un-balanced hot or cold water supplies it is a recipe for disaster.

Think they realized they are going to have to spend some more now! Take it then best option is to convert the cold to mains then pump the hot? Any suggestions for a model of pump? Would the best way be to fit a surrey flange?

They brought the taps, just stsndard quater turn mixer with shower attachment.

No, that is the not the best option, how can you guarantee that the pressure will be / or remain equal to the shower mixer ?

If possible install a thermostatic shower & pump the outlet (if you can't fit a twin impeller on the supplies) can you locate a pump above shower in the loft ?

Only problem I can see I'd that they'll want to keep the current taps as it matches the basin taps. Plus he has WBP ply'd the bath panel and tiled it with no access points. So don't think he wants to smash the tiles off.

How about the triton t40i wall fixed pump? Looks like a small electic shower meant to boost the supply?

Just a 3 amp supply for the ones I fitted years ago.
