NEEDTOKNOW

Hiya,
as a newbie to this site please be patient; I have looked on this site and across the internet for an answer to my specific problem and can't find one so far.

With regard to rotten egg/ suphur smell coming from sinks, the only responses I have see have been about the sink in question. My problem is, when we empty the BATHROOM sink and bath, the bad smells come from the KITCHEN sink and outside drain downstairs.

The Dishwasher and Washing Machine use one pipe to drain and the kitchen sink has its own drain pipe. These both run out into an outside drain. The bath and bathroom sink have seperate drain pipes which run into one main pipe, which then leads into the same main drain into the ground as the kitchen sink and appliances.

The kitchen sink and appliances emptying do not cause the smell, only when either the bathroom sink or bath empty this occurs. One suggestion has been that ther water from the bathroom falls from a greater height and makes the smell rise up from the main drain through the kitchen pipes - although what I'm supposed to do with this information is beyond me!

Can anybody please help as nobody I've asked seems to know the answer?

Thanks!

Fit anti-vac trap to your smelly sink

And clean your smelly drain outside, it might be slightly blocked

Sorry, hammers4spanner,

never heard of it nor seen it mentioned anywhere, have heard of a return something or other. Please bear in mind I'm a female non- Plumber, but I do like to keep up with things and learn as and when they happen to this 'house that Jack built'! I can fit a Ball - cock. But a dry trap? Never heard of it!

Thanks LegionellaSlave,
Will the anti-vac trap help the drain outside? The smell from anyone washing their hands upstairs puts the guests off the barbeques!

It's hard to say really.
The safe thing to do would get a local plumber to
have a quick look.
I'm sure it wouldn't cost much.
Good luck

Thank you LegionellaSlave. Coupled with the response from Hammers4spanner, I think/hope this could work for both problems. Off to B&Q website now! Fed up with pouring Boracic Crystals down the drains!

Thanks again!

This is a wind-up surely?
:asshole:

Dear Legionella slave,

I have now come back to the site because I have tracked down a HepVo on Ebay and now need to work out what size I need. I came back to ask whether, when I order it, do I fit it to the bathroom sink that causes the smell or the kitchen sink where the smell comes in. I am surprised and upset to see your post asking is this a wind-up - I really don't know why you are asking this? I genuinely have this problem and am very grateful to both you and hammer4spanner for responding and was intending to follow both sets of advice if one or the other doesn't work. Why do you think this is a wind-up?
Thanks.

Hi
I think you have to see the whole pipes connection of your bathroom and kitchen sink. Is there any linking between them???
