So, we decided to get the chrimbo tree up today, daughter was dead excited and all that. So, off we went to pick up the tree, bring it home and start to put it up.

It was in one of those net bags, so screwed it into the base first after cutting the stump off with a circular saw (couldn't find a wood saw and the hacksaw I did find was taking too long)

Got the stanley knife out to cut the bag off and just as we were talking about what to put I the top, I slipped..

Daughter is now crying, im ****ing myself, misses is giving me the look of disappointment... Anyway, as we do being tradesmen, nip down to the van and find a way to improvise.

Angel is is now happily say with feet strategically positioned over the battle wounds and no one would would know any different.

Can't beat a real tree for me, the smell, choosing a different one every year, the mess etc

To be fair I left the last one out in the back garden for about 3 months last year when the bin men missed ours. It still had needles on it when it went to the tip!

Did your family not moan about the Christmas tree being in the back of the van over the festive holiday?

I have a theoretical sense that I would rather have a real tree.

But then Mrs S points out that whilst I would be prepared to buy, fetch and erect such a tree, I would then loose interest. Would I feed it, groom it and take it for walks? I suspect not. Would I hoover up its shed needles? Alas, no. And when, in the inevitable twilight of a January weekend, the tree, long past its apotheosis, and fit only for landfill, would I be there, or would I have nipped down the pub? You've guessed it!

So the fake tree has come down out of the airing cupboard. Apparently its against the law to actually put it up and decorate it until our (24yr old) daughter makes an all too brief Xmas appearance.
