Picture this, two flat faced fittings, one has a male thread and the other has a female nut. In between them sits a flat copper washer and the nut screws onto the male thread and the washer is tightened up between the two flat faces of the fitting. How successful do you think this would be as a gas seal?

dont know but it works on brake calipers what did you find it on?

fitted a worcester jr last wk and the gas washer was similar with a rubber lip bit like an hydraulic dowtey washer.

See pics.

The ECV on the pipe is faulty/stiff/whatever.

An adaptor is fitted which seals using a flat copper washer and the new ecv is screwed on top.

Any thoughts?

You'd be quicker greasing the valve

It would probably work ok.

The right thing to do would be to change it surely? It is my belief that copper washers are only for hydraulic fittings, not gas.

I wouldn't know, it's out of my scope!

If it is being supplied with the fittings it must have been tested and found ok (saying that they believed those hard rubber washers were fine a couple of years back).

Is this just something you came across?

It would appear to be accepted common practice by GDNs now.

I am questioning it as a sound and safe engineering practice ...
