No need for me to delete, as it happened some time ago and not in the area where I now reside.

Small claims court, waste of space. Revenge tastes best when served cold. :8:

Not my business at all but this is a wrong attitude for a tradesman , me think !

So you guys just swallow the loss? Dont you guys have anything in place? Ive done some research and theres a regulation that for late payments you can charge 8% interest per day (which is what most banks pay if your in the overdraft)

Im a big believer in what goes round comes round,so i try to forget and move on,but after saying that i always tell them of extra costs before starting

id like toknow where you get an 8 percent overdraft try 18 percent

Pity there aint a website where we could put all the bad payers/pain in the arse customers so we know who to avoid. Mebbe the mods could start a new section!

I see the holier than thou brigade is out.
I personally wouldn't have vandalised the stop tap but the "customer" definitely wouldn't get away unscathed.
In my opinion taking the rad back out would just be mitigating my losses.

When it comes to non payers I think they should have their pets nailed to their front door as a first warning. Aside from a burglar I think a non payer is the most repulsive kind of thief.

I am sure we all have felt like concreting someone's stopcock - but I would never do it!

Jesus you lot are aware that poor members of the general public are going to read this thread - maybe next time they will be better payers!!!!

Prevention is the best cure - learn to spot a nightmare job before you quote. Then either walk, or increase quote accordingly based on how much of a nightmare they are . . .

I now refuse to pay for big items up front (like boilers and baths), 50% cash down on my labour or I walk straight away. I get them to sign a contract just in case . . .

Must have been stung for thousands by now - people do it cause they think they can get away with it.

I am a sole trader not a big company with insurance. I have kids and have to pay rent. I cant afford to lose a months wages cause some 'bstd' is having a paddy!!!

The thing is there is no protection for us at all. I have lost my first limited company because of customers from hell, and I am winding down my work right now as I cant be arsed.

I might get a job at Asda - the wages might be low, but at least I know I will get them at the end of the week!!!!!!!!!

Yeah we should tar and feather them as a warning to other tradesmen!!!!

Or lets start on online database of non-payers - you can put their name in before taking a job to see if they have already stung anyone else!

It would be great cause the non payers wouldn't be able to get anyone to do any work for them, and would have to carry out all their repairs them selves! There house is the one held together with gaffer tape!

Nice one!

I think that is a great idea but their will be the people who have been ripped off them selves who would be on the list aswell.

He should have told her the cost before he started simples. I have a couple of customers a year who don't pay, I just keep calling them until they crack, all else fails I tell them that I am paying it on there behalf. Surprisingly people don't like to think of them selfs as charity cases. Sometimes people just haven't got the money, if that's the case I ask them to pay what they can and move on. Went you ain't got nothing ,you got nothing to lose, is my attitude.

ooooooh, you should remove this. Can't believe you did that to a customer. No matter how dickish they are, there is a line!! You've got to see it from her perspective, she was frightened and didn't know what had caused the problem.

Ha, no. Just had a bit of empathy for a fellow human being. We in the trade can often forget that our customers are people too.

Think is for the people who 'allow' customers to not pay you. Im suprised you can afford to let this slip. I have interest rates in place and once there aware of this they soon pay up! Just like me not being able to afford a 80k car which we all wud like, write them a cheque just to let it bounce and say "o i cant pay you" sorry but nothing is for free!! You will and should do anything to get your money that youve worked hard for!!

Good point koogatubac, at no point was I suggesting that it's ever ok for a customer to not pay.

Go over to the Screwfix forum they are all a bunch of pirates, and treat customers like scum if they don't pay!

Concrete in the stopcock is just starting for them! Peeing in the water tank, hiring thugs the list goes on . . . .

If they don't pay they're not customers. I have no sympathy lol.
