lame plumber

went out to rads not working yesturday, old custard who always winging. So arrived two rads near boiler warm and rest cold, shes wittering about balancing rads (again, left them 2 months ago all working perfectly), but I notice vaillant promax combis short cycling on heating and working a treat on hw, so check diverter valve which is making some nice graunchy noises when heating selected. Diagnose jammed diverter valve hence short cycling. Even ring vaillant techies to confirm and they agree, classic symtoms.

Explain this to custard and explain that new valve needed and will order and fit today.

Ring her pm today, and she launches into me being rip off cowboy (as described by other plumber) and how her other plumber fixed it all for £20 by rebalancing rads and rads warmer now!!!!!!!!!!

tried explaining problem of dodgy divertor valve and it will probably jam again soon to no avail. so now proud owner of £100.58 valve with restock fee of 20% and postage plus time wasted at hers yesterday. I'm now looking for name of this wonderful plumber to see if he knows ought and explain the situation he might be called to deal with soon, although if he does £20 callouts I cant belive he has to pay gas safe anything!!!!!!!

I might be wrong with diagnostics, but I'm positive i was right here, just annoying I cant prove it, doubt if I'll be asked to go back when it breaks idc!!

still 2 nice oily services this morning and fixed a tempremental ferrolli by banging the pcb with a dodgy relay late pm, told custard to call when it needs a new pcb in a few weeks!! He was chuffed I said no charge as I was on my way home to a whisky, and he gave us £20 anyway, so there are some nice ones out there.

Did you bill her for the initial visit? If not, send one and see how it flies !

Customers like that you can do without.
Although, next time it breaks down and "Mr £20 call out" is out of his depth they will be asking you to sort it no doubt so keep it on the van it will get used.

she cant understand what a restocking fee is! but asked for an invoice, so seems she thinks she might need me again! I dont need her though

Have you not been self employed for long? This happens all the time. Welcome to the own your own business world!! BTW your fly and see how it goes invoice will not be paid with a take me to court answer will follow. Do not bother with her as she will live with you if you do a job for her making her skinny deal not worth the hassle!!!

BTW take the 20% hit on restock charge. I still have parts kicking around from 2 yrs ago in my van that I wish i had only lost 20% on!
