I'm new to this forum so hi everyone. My problem started after the cold snap when temps here plummeted to -15C continuously for about 2wks. Now my underfloor heating system was always gonna use more oil I know BUT we've noticed since Jan that the oil goes down alot quicker than it use to and it might be coincidence that it seems to have started post-coldsnap. Anyway recently my wife was chatting to a heating engineer who suggested that our pipes might be furred up as the house was built 5yrs ago. He then suggested that the pipes could be defurred so to speak using a particular process (this is the bit that confused my wife and shes not sure if she heard properly) that might involve magnetism. Can anyone help out there. I hear people thinking he may have an oil leak-well theres no smell of pungent homeheating oil and no evidence of it anywhere. I'm not sure how furred up pipes may cause more oil to be used but we could easily use 900 litres in about 6wks or less. This house is two and a half thousand sq ft and has underfloor heating top and bottom.😕

It's a big house you need to use the stats ie don't heat rooms you don't use what sort of screed do you have?
Is it heated via a buffer vessel or straight off boiler
Was that amount of oil in cold period or now?
Where are you?

Just replied and must have hit the wrong button as it all disappeared-darn it. Anyway thanks for prompt reply Gray0689 and SimonG. The boiler is a 120/150 Bluebird if that makes any sense to you-I haven't a baldy about the mechanics of underfloor heating but am hoping this can be fixed and won't cost an arm and a leg. we live about 15 miles south of Belfast in the beautiful countryside of County Down however countryside in winter equals cold weather. Prior to the cold snap this heating system would use about 900litres in some 3 months or so now 900 litres lasts about 6wks. The underfloor heating is groundfloor and 1st floor so alot of pipes.

If you could take some pics of your set up I might be able to help.

Right Gray0689, I'm going to attempt to post pics of my boiler house, boiler etc so lets see what happens. If these pics go on tell me if you need more detail of anything.
don't think this is working-my pics are in my iphoto on my applemac computer but don't know how to put them on here so you can see them-perhaps you can help
