i would personally kill him the thicko, and not pay him until you have recovered the cost or just sack the waste of food

I cant be bothered with them anymore complete waste of space most are last one i had wrecked my 24v makita amongst other costly ers

Few months ago while showing him , how to service a radiant fire , stepped and crushed radiants .
i think it is time to get another apprentice ,may be a pet fish !!!!!!!!!!!!

not until you have to buy your own tools you can fully appreciate the hard work and effort it takes to afford them in the first place. and only then do people properly look after tools. no doubt he see's you as a wealthy plumber who can afford a nice new set of power tools.

Cruel but fair, Gasman, cruel but fair ("crucifixion to good for em"), small floor in the cunning plan if you do kill him how will you be able to not pay him until you recover the costs.
Or are you proposing to maybe put his flailed body on display collecting donations from passersby & not let the family have the proceeds until you have your new power tools ????

Have none of you ever made a mistake as an apprentice ???

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" & that includes you hammer !!!!!!

PS
Although having all your power tools nicked is bad, oh alright give em a good kicking "it's the only way they will learn, you know"

Normally I'd say give the poor lad a chance but it seems you've put up with far more than your fair share with this kid. Feeling like you've constantly got to keep checking what he's doing as well as doing your job seems like too much hassle in my opinion.

It can never be a good feeling to tell someone they have to go but maybe it's worth mentioning to him that you don't think he has what it takes - common sense.

been there, tried to help a few but decided that they just havent been breeding the right sort in the 90s, they all think that they know everything, deserve paying more and cant even walk before they buy a 206 with stripes and a bolt on wide bore exhaust. and they still turn up late when they get their cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
