mate called me today saying he was looking at a duo tec with e168 - i advised could be pcb .he called me back saying it was the diverter head stuck .feeling puzzled i called baxi who said e168 is a communication error could be that someone has turned the boiler off on a fault and the boiler is confused or could be vertialy any commponent and the pcb has not recognised which component so given the e168 code as it knows there is a fault but not what.my question is could a stiking diverter motor cause this or was it just coinsidence and if so how many pcb have been changed unnecessary ?

Now that's interesting 🙂 I've never had to change a pcb on one of these or personally had the E168 fault but good to know that we should be checking externally before replacing the PCB. However it's interesting to see many posts regarding E168 and replacing the PCB has completed the repair! It may be worth trying isolating the boiler power supply then re-instating to see if the fault goes away! What did Baxi suggest?

if it only does e168 on hw then hw thermistor or diverter if only does it on htg them htg thermistor or diverter head . if on both then check gas valve / fan igniter - everything realy.see attached they told me to view on website this explains it a bit .it is strange how on many posts changing pcb cures it though

About error code E168

Excelent post mate! I only hope my brain retains the info for when I come across the issue!! 😀

Tbh, from what I've seen in the past, that what baxi have written is rubbish. If the power supply is interrupted during lock out it displays e138. E168 I have only ever known to be a PCB fault. I've been back to jobs where a warranty repair has been made on e168 fault & the baxi engineer has changed the PCB. The main issue is that e168 seems to get worse until the boiler stops completely. Commonly, the momo will stop working, but this usually isn't what causes e168, it's a cause of e168.

well here goes, mate called me back today saying e168 re occured today so he replacing pcb.

Well then I may just forget about checking other components!! Maybe Baxi are to scared of a re-occurence of the Suprima ???
