OK, so the time has come for me to finally start my campaign and find an apprenticeship. I plan on starting new 6189 Diploma through Calderdale College in September. At 23 I reckon I might struggle to find an apprenticeship so to make myself more financially attractive I'm more than willing to pay the 50% required by employers for the NVQ myself and happy to work for the minimum apprenticeship wage. This way you have the benefit of a more mature and reliable apprentice with none of the extra cost.

I have always been a hands-on person and extremely mechanically minded. All I ask is for the opportunity to prove my worth. I've held a full clean licence since passing in March 2005 and have my own car. I used to travel 80 miles a day to my last job as a Park Ranger so even if you're out the area please consider me.

If you're even slightly interested then please email me at: [email protected] and I'd be more than happy to answer any questions and send on a full CV and cover letter explaining more about me.

Thanks for taking the time to read this far and sorry Mods if this is the wrong place for this kind of request.

Haha, I'm from a family of rockers so should be ok. Never been obsessed by mirrors or engines that sound like hair driers lol.

I know how hard it is to get an apprenticeship at the moment mate. Im 22 and Im still struggling with it. Good luck though, Im sure someone will notice your message.

Its good to see you are as mature as I am too, its hard to get recognised these days with the generation we are from getting themselves such a bad name.

Good luck in your quest. When I got made redundant the other year from been a trainee gas engineer, I tried British Gas for an apprenticeship and got rejected at the first hurdle because I was over 23. Talk about ageism starting early, I will be well and truly up the creek when Im 60 and try to get a job at ASDA pushing trolleys. lol , all the best

Just noticed Squirrel your from Halifax. Have you tried Clifford Coopers at all, they are based in Elland.

Thanks everyone. I havn't actually tried Clifford Coopers yet so I shall send them a letter early this week, thank you.

Ageism most certainly does start early when it comes to apprenticeships I've noticed, I think too many people want cheap over quality lol (obviously the reverse can be totally true).

this is nothing new, its always been hard to get apprenticeships, it was a miracle when i got mine, i applied for dozens of advertised apprenticeships and only got 1, thats the one i took!! that was 1989 so dont go thinkin its only just got tuff now

Stop raining on my pitty parade fuzzy lol. So far I've sent out 36 letters and a further 12 today, got 2 replies back both saying no; was nice of them to actually get in touch though. I reckon I'll send out about 25 more, phone round as many as I can without going mad and then what more can I do but pray a long lost relative appears who happens to be a plumber lol. It's about now I kinda wish I knew someone in the trade.

keep going mate....I did fast track age off 29 now is the other battle to fined the work and to attract customers so they can be my free advertisers !
