Hi
I have recently decided to have a change in career path. I am 22 and have always wanted to be a police officer. This is no longer an option what with budget cuts and time passing me by. I am now in a dilema as to what to do with my life and need a career that will be challenging, rewarding and pay well. I was interested in being a plumber when i left school but was persuaded to go university and get an education. I now regret this decision and wish i would have took the apprentice route and got a trade.

I am basically looking for any advice as to what would be the best option for me to get in to the profession. I am in full time employment and work shifts including weekends and nights. I am not keen on the idea of giving up my job (which i hate) for something with no garaunteed result. I have read reviews about train for trade skills etc and am very dubious about them. Would I have to go back to college with 16 year olds or is there any other way of doing it? Is there any real need for plumbers in this climate and is work scarce?

I want to make a decent living and feel i would be good working as my own boss but it seems like everone is jumping on this bandwagon at the minute.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

dont spend loads of cash training, you will need years worth of work just to pay it off. As for police cuts, its the same in our industry. N ot as much work going and the pay has taken a nose dive. if you want to join the police why not look into military police? just a thought.

howdoo chum, i changed my career at 52 yers young, i was a dj all over europe and earned about 45k a yer, i worked with all the big names etc, mad eh, i was then told i was too old at 52 to dj anymore, i didnt want to go the sad wedding dj route, so a part ime job, which i also hate.lol. and then off to college, better if you do ther c+g nvq 2+3, altough i belive its changing now AGAIN!!!, anyway do the college and once you've done that go on do to do the gas, in level 3 theres an introduction to gas saftey, you'll need this to go on to the gas acs etc, then its trying to get a placement for the gas training. be careful though some companies want £1000 for the privelige, at the mo plumbing is quiet if your self employed, the gas is a little better, im trying to get with a company if i can, ive been servicing and do maintainance on all ages of boilers for the last 15 months, i really enjoy it, im an old school mechanic (qualifed in 1977) so i ove having tools in my hand.. lol
