Hob fitting...

Hi

I am about to fit a hob having got my cooker/hob ticket only recently. Nearly all our training was on gas ovens and while building my portfolio I came accross only freestanding cookers on flexis. Obviously hobs are a bit more involved.

Now I'm aware of the need for an accessible isolation valve, fixed pipework, gas pressures, clearances, ventilation etc, but of a more practical nature:

1. what comes with a new hob in terms of fittings? Will there be everything there with the new hob or will I have to obtain fittings myself (chargeable of course)- if so is there a set of fittings you carry around to fit cookers/hobs with so that you don't have to dash off to the merchants?

2. do you usually take out the old hob yourself and then silicone in the new one yourself? It's not that I mind doing it but wonder whether this is normallly done by you. If so any hints/tips would be gratefully received.

You normally need a 1/2 inch male or female iron to connect onto the hob. All the fixing to actually fix the hob down will come with the hob. They normally have a foam/rubber seal which goes around the edge of the hob to seal it down to the work top so I personally dont silicone them aswell.

best to stick to MI and use the supplied heat resistant seal.

Is it going into an existing worktop?

Can be a nightmare when you need to cut off 2mm of laminate worktop all roung the hob aperture

Get yourself a kit of fibre washers to keep in the van as they are sometimes needed on the 1/2 Female coupler as the elbow that comes with the hob sometimes bottoms out.
