This has been nagging me for awhile but since I've joined this forum I thought I'd ask here.

Im renting a house at moment away from home for this last year and any time I have a bath, it takes an hour and half to heat the ho****er cylinder. Its not a large cylinder by any means but anytime I want a bath, the emersion needs to go on along with the oil for an hour and half or even 2 hours in winter. Someone mentioned the heating element might need replacing but as ya do in life, another guy told me this is untrue as it would stop working all together. Anyone know what the problem is or is it I just need a bigger cylindric

You have an oil boiler so must be out in the sticks. Are you on mains water? How old is the cylinder? How old is the heating system? Is it fully pumped or gravity water?

No more than 15 years old cylinder and heating system. Mains fed to gravity fed tank.

Shouldn't need boiler and immersion. You sure the boiler side of it is working and it's not just the immersion on its own? Feel the 2 heating pipes going in and out what temperature are they. (With hot water on)

Have both on now so will check when having a bath soon. is it the both pipes coming from the top and bottom?

10 to 15 years ago (before part L of the building regs affected cylinders) there were cylinders that were made to such a low price that they could easily have a 90 minute re-heat time. The coil was only a couple of turns- they really were nasty.

"Tiger" was one brand, but there were others - some just touted as "medium duty". I remember the first time I picked one up, it flew up in the air, because I was expecting it to weigh the same as a proper Grade 3 but it had less than half the metal in it.

You should also check that the hot supply pipework under ground floor is not leaking or make sure you do not have badly dripping hot tap/s..
