Builder should be named and shamed ...he should not employ them ! The albanians will take a job if the job is offered to them

Joke a side I was doing a job and spotted another engineer working for a slum landlord , Well i was doing pipework to a meter and this albanian was standing there looking at me over my shoulder wearing his Des O Connor jumper , I had to tell him to get lost , Apparently he does all this guys pipework for him ,Things aint that bad at present but I suspect they are going to get worse before they get better,IMHO

The one thing we don't do as a nation of peoples anymore is look out for our own.........everyone else, Indians, Jews, Pakistani's etc ALL look out for each other in business and socially....we sadly have developed an 'i'm alright jack' and 'who can do this the cheapest' attitude....there's no loyalty to 'our own' or any allegiance to our neighbours anymore. I've lived in France and I can tell you, their attitude is if you want to live in France, SPEAK FRENCH, and you try working out there.....if you ain't French your on an uphill struggle from the get go. Home here, most important criteria for most, 'who's quickest and cheapest'....simple as...

I think it is to expensive now in france not to mention living there , I do know a neighbour who has moved out there as he says the quality of life is much better ,he is retired and he has just sold his house so has loads of money, Unlike the rest of us

Have you tried local housing authorities and or companies who have contracts on service and maintenence with housing assosciations/councils. They are not worried about you as a competitor, they have plenty of work and you will complete your portfolio very quickly. If you put it to them that you will work for free with an engineer and when qualified if its best for both parties you get a job, if not you go your seperate ways.

sounds like good advice to me , I would speak to managers at local merchants and chat direct to engineers myself

Yup, I'm on it...sounds like more good advice, just thought I'd hit the 'one man bands' first on the basis that they could do with a free hand.....plenty of big companies round here so I'll give them a shot. And its true gasmarc, its tres cher in France now, but great red/white or rose wine can be bought for 2.50€ a bottle.....if only you could live on it.. : (

Yes I dont think work would get done lol. You might have a bit of luck if we get a cold snap I might need a hand doing a few boiler swaps but at the minute it is still very quiet

luvly jubly, anything would be great at this stage........i've had a couple of new bahco adjustable wrenches and some other new bits in the tool bag that I can't wait to use, they don't look good all pristeen and shiny...

im the same as marcbeen doing this for thirty odd years and its now pants insurance schemes have taken all the small work ,easten europeans the medium sized work for builders and the big boys will only pay peanuts for monkeys
builder i used to do work for has two albanian plumbers doing his bathrooms £50 a day for the 2 of them he took one home the other day and they are living 8 in a room in 4 bunk beds
absolutely, disgusting.imo should be marched to the boarders and deported. builder should be held in court for tax dodging and slave labor,....
