Heating Engineer (Has GSR)
just bought a kane 455 analyser of ebay and when i looked at it the serial number on the back has been removed, just wondering were i stand ,could it be stolen etc, and will i be able to get it calibrated ,i got in touch with seller and he said he bought it second hand and he said he did not remove serial number,.maybe a exspensive lesson learn't ,has anyone sent a unit for calibration without serial number ?

I can't really see it being a problem to be honest with you. It will probably have a serial number inside the unit or it will show it on the display once the engineer who is calibrating it plugs it into his machine.

I would not panic for now, but the seller should have pointed the missing serial number out in his/her listing so if you are unhappy, ask for a refund and return it assuming you paid via paypal. Item not as described and all that.

Sounds a bit dodgy. If it has been stolen and Kane have a list of these units that can be verified internally by S/N, then potentially you could be in for a bit of hassle. There is no other reason I can see for removing the serial. Don't know if kane keep a list of stolen units, but if I could get out of the deal I would.

thats what i'm thinking,do i risk sending it or try and get my money back,do you know you try and save a few quid and **** happens costing you more in the long run.defo a lesson learnt.

I'd like to think if someone nicked my 455 they couldnt just have it sent to Kane and continue using it....but it probably happens.

I HATE tool theives.

No skills of there own, so the nick another mans way of making a living.

Good on you for noticing. How much inc the delivery did you pay out of interest?

they should be hung by their testicles they are lucky i dont run the country😡

two ways,

ask seller for proof of purchase before you take it to police station for verification.

take to police station for check to see if its stolen. (you may loose the kane)

in either case contact paypal and lodge a complaint as this will give you more time and protect your money.

contact kane and ask how/if you can access the internal firmware for number and their policy on no serial number.

then its all yours.

Kane do keep tracking lists on their units. If you buy a Kane unit they know who it belongs too. I bought one second hand, and transfered the ownership details over, with the consent of the seller.
