Hi, had to replace a small water heater in a holiday home (static van) last week, no problem insurance paying, customer also had faulty sink tap (Monoblock) was aske'd if it could be replaced, no problem can do it at same time ! ask'd them to supply tap ( dont like getting taps for people) as they never like what you buy, customer insists that i get them (Old lady) as long as not to expensive, OK taps got and fitted , did not charge for fitting. Any way, finished heater, noticed that smoke alarm not working and no CO alarm in van (Open flue fire & water heater) also that pigtails on gas bottles were way out of date and in poor condition, So sent her a letter adviseing about the faults for her safety & anyone else useing the car-a-van, Get a very rude and irate son on the phone Saterday morning complaining about the note i sent his mum, saying it's nothing to do with me what is working and what is not ! Told him we have a duty to bring these to peoples attention for their safety, keeps ranting on about its nothing to do with me, Told him fine but if anything happens it will be down to him, Then asks what do I know ? say's he is a full time `FIREMAN` told him he should know better than let is mum and is kids sleep in somewere with no warning alarms. Copy of letter left with site owner. May even send one to his insurance Co.

Dont believe it ! now he's moaning about the taps, says £44.00 is a rip off for 1/4 turn leaver monoblock , told him to go and buy his own,

The only thing that would have annoyed me is that you didn't tell me there and then...

A fireman should know, he is probably a builder/plumber/roofer/electrician/UPVC gutter, fascia & soffite technician in his down time.

see it from there point of view, he has probably come home to find her panicking about the fact that she is not in a safe position, he has had to rassure her that she is ok and calm her down, now he is unhappy that you got her upset and is angry with you, even if it does make sense (he may not see it)

You have done the right thing, maybe you should of told her at the time rather then later, but you are doing your job, thats all.

Send a copy of the letter to his boss.....the local fire chief, he'll not be too chuffed at his attitude towards a lack of fire safety.

Sounds like a right tosser!

Bet he's good at pool and table tennis though :icon10:

I did inform her by phone SS that day, even spoke to site owner who says he is allways telling them about the pig tails, she told me thet the smoke alarm fell to bits age's ago, so it seams that they take no notice, so thats why I sent them a letter to point out the risk's , also turn's out nothing been serviced since 2000, Back on camp site today so they will be getting a AR notice see how her son likes that.

You are overstepping the mark issuing a retrospective AR, you were there to do a plumbing job and duty of care stepped in and you advised them of your concerns, leave it at that it's none of your business now, and if you issue an AR now and he has a think about it he will phone GSR and complain you didn't issue one on the day, it will just end in grief for you, you have lost them as customers now so why waste your time and effort, if they die you might get more work from the new owners anyway. I have long given up worrying about idiots who don't take my well meaning expert advice
