Toxic Ted

Had a strange one today.....got a call asking to go and size a meter which custard had been told by BG was not big enough but had asked him to get a second opinion. House boiler 48kw, basket fire 9kw and a pool boiler 57kw giving a total of 114 kw (wouldnt want his gas bill). All this going through a u6 which as we know will pass 6 cubic m and a demand of 10.2 cubic m. As the basket fire has no fsd or any other safety device to shut it down if starved how would you have classed this .......pool boiler has been capped to bring the meter back into range but i cant see why they would leave it all running......the way i saw it the fire could have been starved and gone out and then filled the room with gas when either of the boilers shut down........what do you think?

Daft question if fire has no fsd, does it have a data badge as all the fires I have seen without fsds have no data on them.

"6 cubic m and a demand of 10.2 cubic m", whats this mean? how can it pass 10.2 if the maximum is 6, either way it needs to be bigger

I am intrigued to learn from this, but looking through my GSIUSP book it says that if it is under gassed then the affected appliances should be ID or AR, whichever you feel, this has been done, he has then made safe, I can not find anything about FSD's needing to be fitted, except if multiple appliances fitted to same flue

does this need moving to the other GSR forum??

anyway if the pool boiler is capped off, the meter is no longer undersized for what it is supplying.
the fire will only be starved if the pipework is also undersized, is it?

I was more concerned that they had got another party to establish that the meter was too small to supply the required 10.2m3 and they left it running two boilers and a fire. I had made the decision to AR the pool boiler and keep the house boiler and fire as these could still be fed an adequat supply. I just cant see why they would leave it like that when they knew there was a problem.........perhaps i'm just being a tit

oh I see, you AR'ed the pool boiler, sounds like he didn't know what to do, maybe he has just started and told him to get someone else. should of known what he was doing though!!!
