Hi All

I was wondering if one you clever people can please help me out.

IOver the last week I noticed orange flame in the gas hob. The gas hob is Bosch and less than a year old.

I cleaned up everything.

It still continued to be orange.

When I used the hob later in the afternoon and evening it has gone back to being normal blue flames. I tested this everyday and the burners seem to have orange flame only in the morning and blue by the afternoon!!!

What could be the cause of this???

Thanks

Switch off the hob at its gas cock and put a clear 'Danger do not use' notice on it. Call the installer (or Bosch) and don't use it again until the fault has been repaired. Only a Gas Safe Registered person can handle this type of fault.

The orange flame is a sign of incomplete combustion and that your hob is producing carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is a very dangerous poisonous gas and its effects are ***ulative.

Use a microwave or get takeaways until it's fixed again.

If you have other gas appliances (oven, fires, etc.) check that they are operating correctly and if not don't use any gas appliances until you've been checked.

Consult a doctor if you or your family have been suffering from any of the symptoms.

Is this happening just on one burner or all of them ? may not be the hob that is at fault but you could be in a area that has low gas pressure at certain times of day.

Hi.Thanks all for advice.
I have put 2 carbon monoxide alarms next to it and no alarms.

It is all the burners. and just in the mornings for few hours and then goes blue.

The bosch engineer is coming tuesday. Do I need to notify my gas supplier if there is an issue with gas supply in mornings?

Also can anyone reccommend any gas safe engineers in ha8 or ha7 edgware/stanmore area please.

Many Thanks

The engineer will contact the emergencey service if needed mate , how many other gas appliances do you have ?

Probably we are thinking the same thing JTS but if theres no boiler ? Cheers kop

Any update on this?

It does sound like your pressure is fluctuating.
What time in the morning is it yellow and what time in the afternoon is it blue again ?

Hi all

Sorry I do have a boiler as well. It is a vaillant ecotec 624.

The flames become yellow around 8 and then return to blue around 12ish.

Both by carbon monoxide alarms do not beep and I have put them right next to the hob.

I am completely puzzled by this.

If you think its the pressure does the gas company need to deal with this?

Thanks for all the help so far guys.

Is your boiler on a programmer so it will be operating ie for heating and or hotwater when the hob is being used? a GSRE needs to do some tests but no the gas company does not need to be contacted by yourself it will be the GSRE responsibility to do this if necessary but i am sure i know what your problem is and it needs addressing contact your local engineer asap . cheers kop

Hi. The boiler is on programmer for heating and hot water.

The hot water and heating goes off by 6.30 am so the orange flame is not related to that i think.

In the evening the flames are blue and the boiler is switched on for heating.

What do you think the problem is?

The bosch engineer is coming to have a look at the gas hob but i am unsure if he would be a GSRE.

I am going to contact a GSRE via mybuilder unless there is any recommendations here for north london. I just want this sorted out asap due to baby.

Thanks

The Bosch guy will be GS so see what he has to say B4 you go paying out any money, if need be there will be some one on this forum who can help, or ring GS and they will give you some contact numbers for a GS person in your area
