Plumber or Electrician - Newly fitted valve faulty

View the thread, titled "Plumber or Electrician - Newly fitted valve faulty" which is posted in UK Plumbers Forums on UK Plumbers Forums.

I'm just looking for some advice. I've just had my 3 port valve replaced. A simple replacement of like for like. The old one had been working fine since I moved into the property 2 years ago but was old and died last week. My local plumber replaced it for me. The new valve isn't automatically sending the hot water to the cylinder. If I manually switch the valve it works fine. From this i have guessed its the wiring. However, when i asked the plumber who fitted it last week to come over and take a look he is refusing to, sayings its an electrical job. Am i expecting too much of him to come and look at his own wiring?

its quite possible your old valve was ok and the faulty component is still at fault possibly a thermostat

Not sure I agree with that!

Diagnosing the issue is relatively simple ...
Diagnosing the fault my be simple, but get them to drain a 26 radiator system to change a complete zone/mid valve...... then they’ll play dumb and get a plumber.

Not an unreasonable expectation, but he's probably used to getting people claim it worked perfectly until he changed the valve and thinks you're scamming him.

Has he fitted it the right way around?

He should have tested it before he left, if something else has failed then it's still s plumbers job not a sparks. If he's willing to change motorised valves he should be at least competent to test/ fault find on the controls as well otherwise how would he know the valve was faulty in the first place.

The 3-port valves I'm familiar with are spring return to the HW position. So if it's getting no power it should be sending the hot water to the cylinder. Sounds like a wiring issue. Diagrams are available on the internet (if not in the box the valve came in) so you could do a prelim check if you feel competent.
