Plumbing Material Costs

View the thread, titled "Plumbing Material Costs" which is posted in UK Plumbers Forums on UK Plumbers Forums.

i have just totted up this list for you and it comes to £435. that excludes a mark up say 25%.

my guess is they spend a lot of time 'nipping out' to do the other jobs.

the give away is why have they charged you for 14 iso valves. theres enough for 3 bathrooms.
and a 500gm pot of flux when a 120gm will do.

your paying for others or a nice stocked van me friend.

and 30m of copper pipe????????????

Heres the thing, I already did. Before I raised any question about the invoices, he said to me "we havent taken any stuff to another job.....". I asked outright today if he wanted to have another check to make sure all the invoices are for our job. And guess what, he went through them and is sure they all belong to us.

I've reached the end of my rope with it all now. Its simple, I'll pay what i belive is reasonable an fair, about £500. If it doesnt cover it , too bad, thats what you get for being a greedy b*****d

Last refit I did had to move cylinder to adjacent room (new) and knock down the old wall which used to house the toilet, to rip out refit plus bath. Sanitary supplied (i supplied fittings only) cost that and I added a cheeky microbore bender to the list. Should have got a diamond drill set too......should have realised

What a chancer, how do people think this is alright to do? Thats is just stealing and stupidly as if anyones not going to question a £1200 bill pay him £400 max tell him that you feel let down by him and if he belongs to any trade organisation report him

i think your well within your rights to do that to be fair - sounds like hes had the chance to back track and didnt take it!

You also mentioned that they were redoing some dodgy plumbing ? So in summary your saying £1200 in 'parts' the suite and fittings were already brought and installed and then 11 days labour to put it right. how dodgy was it to warrant them charging you 11 days labour?

That is without doubt the most ridiculous list i have ever saw, Ive worked on industrial sites fitting bathroom after bathroom and have never made a list even close to that

I'm really sorry to hear this, some of us are trying to raise the customer quality of plumbers, its partly what I started.

Pay what is fair, go down the local plumbers with the list, maybe the ones they got it from, remove the items mentioned - they are part of the job and not something a customer should pay extra for - I dont ask for me van to be kitted out - thats what my pay is for, and when he kicks up just ask him to take you to court over the rest. Actual vs requested doesn't have a chance.

thinking back, i did a 9' x 7' bathroom.

re-pipe, new shower install, suspended ceiling, spot lighting, 4x4 tiling, laminate flooring, tower rad, new electrics.
and the materials were £1,200 and i got to take home 'left overs'.😛

just ask them where the 30 meters of 15mm pipe work has been run.

It beats me that people are so stupid to give a list like this. Or didn't he think it would be queried?

Mind you, I suppose they're so hell bent on taking as much money as possible it doesn't dawn on them that there are perfectly respectible people (customers) around who are willing to pay decent money for a good job and we put out trust in these people (from lawyers to accountants to electricians and ... even plumbers!!)

If I was the customer in this case I'd consider contacting trading standards. That plumber is a cheat.

Think I'd better stop there before I get banned from the forum.

Have to agree,£1200 is way over the top.Half of that at the absolute worst really. I noticed a freezer kit sneaked on the list too!

nobody has realised that he handed over receipts. how can he claim on his tax without his receipts legally?

Were they referred to you? Did you get any other quotes? How much are they charging for labour?

I have gave copies of my material receipt to a customer before because it was £2500 odds and I wanted money for it when material was on site as some of my cash was invested into it
