hi i am gase safe but came across a potterton profile today it has gromits in the bottom were the wires ect come out all these were seald with mastick apart from one which it was spilling from there was also mastick on the bottom of the case seals were it meete the boiler face.i have I D the boilr but can any one tell me if it is normal for mastick to be put in gromits as it scrinks when it is heated over time so could any one help with some advice please

Personally, I would fit the correct part as they are fit for purpose, the mastic is not. If something happens because the mastic was not totally sealing it then you will end up in court. ID it and fit the correct part, else they need a new boiler. Thats how I see it.

thank you to both for your help. i was thinking the same about fitting the nrw parts ect just wanted a second appion. and gordon i am dyslexic so that is wh my spelling is notso good. but thanks any way.

as i said i have I.D the boiler as it was spilling but the gromets that are in there already all had masstick in them i will try and find new ones and take it from there.

For future reference stephen, some Ideal Classics have grommets on them at the bottom which perish and fall out, you can order spares to carry around in the van. It might be handy to keep a few if you're doing servicing work

Which ever way you decide to repair this boiler, remember this is a positive pressure appliance. ie, any break in case seal will always result in spillage!

It should be quite obvious it is a positive pressure boiler when you take the cover off, replying to posts is not about stating the obvious, its about answering the query the OP has. If the case is not properly sealed it is still at fault whether its positive pressure or not.
