I have a problem with a basin mixer tap. It is leaking from the base of the upright section when the hot water supply is switch on (difficult to see where from precisely). I have replaced the flexi hoses and also the cartridge but it is still leaking.

Do I simply need to replace the tap or is there anything else it could be?

Hi Adrian.
have you ruled out water being splashed onto the tap base and leaking under to the bottom of the tap because of a badly fitted washer?

thats the usual cause either tap is to snmmall to cover the hole properly or the washer has moved of disintergrated if its on flexis loosen it of and rebed it on a big blob of plumbers mait

Its very rare to see but anythings possible with the standards of craftmanship that goes into some products nowadays but you might have a split in the body of the tap, ( had one beginning of year) either that or your new flexis are still leaking ,

Find out exactly where the water is coming from. If it is the tap connector which i suspect it is. Isolate it then take it out. Check the thread, change the fibre washer is needed.

But if its flexi tap connectors and you have already changed them then yh it prob is the tap just change the tap

Great advice everyone. It's definitely not from water being spashed on the base. The leak is a steady trickle so far more than could be splashed. In terms of the flexis, I have completely replaced them with new ones, washers in tact and screwed in tightly.

The chances are that it is something simple but difficult to identify.

I use blue paper towel to establish where a leak is. Start at the highest point it could possibly leak and gradually move it down over all joints until the light blue towel goes dark and you have found the source of your problem.
