Removing Air Con units?

Been asked to remove some radiators and pipework in a property. They've also asked if can remove an air conditioning unit, to which I replied they probably need an F-gas registered guy, was I correct or did I shoot myself in the foot?

Yeh you shouldn't discharge to atmosphere . But a few boys and girls do.

Not worth it tom. You wont know what refrigerant is in it depending on the unit age.

Some of the older refrigerants can be really nasty for your health too... I wouldn't fancy a face full of Methyl Formate, Chloromethane or Ammonia.... To be fair they'd have to be old units and predate the now obsolete CFCs and modern refrigerants.

If the units still operate they can be pumped down to contain the refrigerant in the outdoor unit, if not the refrigerant would have to be recovered. But by the letter of the law you need to be F Gas qualified/registered regardless, because you would be deemed as working on a refrigerant system/circuit.

Turns out the room is going to be turned into a refrigerated store, so the guys doing the fridges are removing the AC.
