I am not. And I do not need to be qualified to tell that this is a dangerous install / or whatever you call it. You can see it has spillage marks all over the place. Even if they asked I’d be very frank that i am not holding license but still able to judge.Yes, and they will ask if your competent to judge Solid fuel installations, i.e. are you qualified ?

Spillage would be my first point. If you’d entered the property you would have smelled wrong burning or something like backing up into the room. It was very intense smell of wrong burned fuel. However, even though I am a bit more sensitive than others but never seen something like this before. But how do you know that it is not safe Ron?
Have I ever mentioned that I can smell spillage? I said that I entered the property and it smelled of wrong burning fuel like black soot.😀 thats the first time ive know anyone be able to smell spillage
my suggestion to you leave it alone dont do anything
How do I know, as soon as you stand in from your of it and it backs up into the property ...wrong
how do you know its spilling fyi coal is a dirty fuel
You are the men as usual mr smart .....thats a coal fire for you 😀
That’s true. As I said for me it was the first time I ever came across this sort of diy fire. I trust your experience as a qualified gsr... I believe you’ve seen a lot of bad things in your career and perhaps stillWell depending on how long you have been doing this job, you could see more and worse, I've seen things that would make your hair go white, B4 CORGI and the need to report everything, and still come across some very bad sights ,
Did you see that Best? Did I see what Harvest? Exactly Best.😉😉😛😛😀I now ignore a lot of things I see.
Unless I am asked to touch the offending work, or there is high risk, like live wires, or flue gases danger, then most I do is just advise the customer to have the work brought up to a safer standard.
You can't force a person to have things made safe, except on gas work, as far as I know

Thanks for the warming words, much appreciated. Yes indeed, i have reported it. I did not like the fact how it was installed. Even though Id Be wrong or over sensitive I cared about the safety my customer. For what it's worth Matchless, you did the right thing in RIDDOR reporting it if that's what you did. If someone carked it due to CO poisoning or a house fire and you knew about it you would never forgive yourself.
The HSE will more than likely do nothing to be honest but at least you can say "I told you so", if something does come of it, eh?
At least you passed the buck.

What a mess that is. Is it a working gas appliance attached to it?
