Gas Engineer
Hi guys, just had a right mare, went to a friends house today because they could smell gas and thought they had a leak in their kitchen.

Upon switching the boiler off as to not effect my tightness test I saw this and thought O no what have I walked into. Was I right to AR the boiler isolate it and tell them not to use it and advise them that they need a new boiler?

Also found leak on compression joint under gas hob. Fixed that 😉

Also would you look to relocate the boiler as I have never had to discharge a flue which passes through a conservatory before 🙁

Was an extended flue actually available for that boiler, think I would have ID'd that.
Nice job but still think it's ID

I dont think that is even the correct flue, think they have used modern flue adapted to extend the old one.

I thought ID, but AR or ID it's a friend i've isolated it so they will not be using it now. Will be back Monday to discuss best ways round putting in a new boiler.

Pretty shocking who ever has done that, I know it wasn't them as they have only just brought this house as a repo.

Poor girl was in tears when I told her the bad news. But she understood as they have young children.

Is say you were definitely doing the right thing slapping an AR on it. This is just another example of why I tell family, friends and my customers that if they ever think of moving they should get there place inspected before hand and get a gas safety cert for it.

Hahahah I love google maps, just looked at this property and you can go back in time, i've managed to go as far back as 2009 and you can still see this flue installed like this PMSL how has anyone managed to survive

AH yes 23 Chris₹#%¥€} close, . Circa July 2012 if I'm not mistaken. Maybe the address should be blurred out.

Its not 23 as the addresses in this picture are all 3 digits, its posted in a private part of the forums so didn't see the harm.

As for the bum sandwich pmsl - Even I had forgotten those, dam they must have been 10 year ago. Had to liven up my old photobucket account after they stopped allowing photos to be uploaded to the forums. To be 19 again with no real responsibilities those were the days, rugby, beer, girls, beer, girls, work, did I say beer and girls yet :S lol

its a saunier duval.....nuf said, cap it!!!!!!
you just said that to pick up some easy likes

My vote is ID, you cant mix and match flues, that boiler is an ugly mess

why do saunier duval always come up when someones brought a new property, i've capped one and told another customer not to bother fixing it as its past saving in the last few months. telling a customer they need a new boiler is a tough call when theyve just brought a house and have no money left
Are people moving house just to get away from a saunier duval

PS anyone reading this who has a saunier duval, sorry to inform you, but you need a new boiler, that also goes for anyone with an ideal isar or a potterton puma
