Hi, I'm in the same boat as a lot of people here. I have used the forums many times but have nearly always had my queries answered by existing threads, so have never needed to post.
We're having a massive remodelling done on our house. I'm managing it and doing the plumbing and electrics myself. This isn't just to save money, there are several reasons, one being that we change our minds frequently and would rather do something twice or more and have it right than leave it just because it was done that way. Few professionals would have the patience to work with us.
Plumbing-wise it's: Vaillant Ecotec 30 system boiler + Stanton unvented cylinder (no I'm not fitting these), Polyplumb piping. UFH in basement. Radiators fed from manifolds on ground and first floor, stats in each room, so effectively 1 zone per room. MVHR system too.
Very interested in the plastic versus copper debates - I'm firmly in the plastic camp having plumbed the house in it in Hep20 first time round with zero problems in 15 years. Main benefit to us is rarely mentioned: it being silent in use. We are in a rented house currently and the symphony played by the expanding (fairly recent install) copper CH pipes in the morning has to be heard to be believed. And when someone flushes or runs a tap it 'rings' in every room.
